It seems that the developer of XG is essentially no longer supporting the software. I've e-mailed multiple times regarding licensing issues with XG and also about the fact the XG mobile (my paid version) no longer works on Android. I have received no response.

I am not about to purchase another license when the dev doesn't seem to even care about supporting my current paid products. I have been using GnuBG, but it has some evaluation issues with certain types of games, especially back games.

Any suggestions on alternatives? Is there anything new(er) out there?

There's nothing newer. XG is as good as it gets currently.

I've always gotten a response when I emailed them, although last time I contacted them was few years ago.

Depending on your needs BGBlitz might be an alternative for you. And it is still in active development and supported. I'm quite sure about that

Yes. BGBlitz uses pure self learning (some said that self learning in BG can only lead to "mediocre" strength, but I believe I showed that to be false. Not to mention Alpha Zero

).

You might be interested that after some experiments I settled on a Lambda = 0.

Xg runs on older Android versions. Here on my tablet with Android 7 it runs perfectly. On my Android 11 phone not. If you want to use a great bot on an actual phone, you gotta go with bgblitz!

@Uberkuber: Doing BGBlitz as a spare time project I don't have the resources to do a mobile version. Maybe when I retire (which is not soooo far away).
But Backgammon Gold from Mobivention (Android and iOS) and "Treu Backgammon HD" (Ios) use BGBlitz AI in the Professional Version or as in-app buy.

I Bought XG shortly after its initial release, so quite a while ago. Then after an absence from online BG for a while, several house moves and multiple changes of PC and email addresses, I only dug XG out of mothballs recently (within the last several months) naturally I had forgotten my activation code. I emailed Xavier, (XGs creator), he dug out my details and asked for a little verification to prove who I was and he had my up and running again in no time.

I am very surprised that he is not answering emails and I wonder how involved he is in development over at backgammon galaxy, after all it is his software at the heart of galaxy.
