Hi all!

I play with XG cash games and there is at the end of any game an elo changing, based on my performance rating and if i win or if i lose. Some Times i lose but if i played with low pr i get +2 points or so.

Is that elo reliable?

If Yes, How much elo is "good one?"

Sorry for bad writing, i m from phone with no english language

I would assume the ELO rating is reliable, just based on the fact that Xavier clearly did a good job and I'd be surprised he made a mistake on this. But if he did make a mistake, I don't know how you'd demonstrate this.

'Good' is a relative term, but roughly an ELO of 2000+ would make you a world-class player.

PR never affect the Elo, only the result does.

In unlimited game Elo is calculated as follow:
  • ExpectedPPG = (DElo/50)*0.100
  • Elo gained = (result - ExpectedPPG) * K
where K is 5 for a player with no experience and goes down to 1 once the player reach 400 experience.

For instance if you are 200 Elo point weaker than the bot
ExpectedPPG=-0.4
  • If you lose one point change=( -1 - (-0.4) )*5 = -3
  • If you win one point change=( +1 - (-0.4) )*5 = +7
  • If you win tow point change=( +2 - (-0.4) )*5 = +12

Now, if you have a large Elo difference you can actually gain Elo if you lose a single game as your expected ppg is less than -1:
with 600 Elo difference
ExpectedPPG=-1.4
  • If you lose four point change=( -4 - (-1.4) )*5 = -13
  • If you lose two point change=( -2 - (-1.4) )*5 = -3
  • If you lose one point change=( -1 - (-1.4) )*5 = +2
  • If you win one point change=( +1 - (-1.4) )*5 = +12
  • If you win two point change=( +2 - (-1.4) )*5 = +17

If over 10 games you
- lose 2 games at 4
- lose 4 games at 2
- lose 2 games at 1
- win 2 games at 2

you lost 14 points or 1.4 ppg and your Elo change is 2*(-13)+4*(-3)+2*(+2)+2*(+17)=0
As you performed exactly as expected your Elo does not change.

I hope this clarify the process.

What a beautiful post! Now i see why i gained elo even losing a game !

One more thing please: the elo rating calculated this way is more or less the same elo considered for instance in FIBS or Gridgammon? Because Over three hundred games registered in my XG my elo is stable about 1950 and luck corrected a little more than 1900 and I think this really overstimates my real elo imo thanks

Under Options> Settings> Main Settings there is an option to change the Elo rating method.
