I know that there are already several threads bleating about "what's ur winrate" and "can i go pro" and blah blah blah, but this thread is slightly different. I just want to hear from anyone who makes a significant amount of money (say >=$1000/month) playing backgammon, and what their take is on how profitable the game is, whether it's getting more or less profitable, etc. Do you play to supplement your poker income or as your main source of income? Has it gotten easier or harder recently? Do you play live or online? How good do you think a player needs to be before considering taking up backgammon as, say, a part-time job?

Hi guys,

I play for real but not big money. No matter how good are you when its for normal money its gambling, in gambling then you think you can earn money from it you loose everything thats my opinion. That how casino lives

In backgammon i think its more easy to take money than in poker, where a lot of players for money which never read any books about it and think they play very good. In poker you dont see opponent card so he can bluf anytime here you see everything.

But i get to nervous playing for money, like Robertie wrote sometimes your advantage is 1:50000 and you loose and get such TILT

haha to the post above. No disrespect. But

"gambling then you think you can earn money from it you loose everything thats my opinion. That how casino lives"

you do know in backgammon you play other players..right? Are you familiar with any of the math in the game?

OP hopefully get some good answers to this post. I posted something a long these lines but got no response. Id love to see if someone is really making legit money ya know? especially on the internet. I want to take up a career playing games. Not just poker but skill games and some games with mixture of skill and luck like backgammon. It be great to improve my strategy skills esp for business later on in my life. I was actually looking on worldwinner and they have a bunch of skill games to play for real $. But i wonder how many really make money ya know? Its always good to see someone doing something you want successfully.

Gus hansen talks about how backgammon is fun as s*** and improves your analytical mind. I know dan harrington and others played it. I just want to know if its something on the internet that is a great supplement of income.

OP do youplay any skill games for money???live or on the internet?

I only play people who i know are inferior (usually friends at uni for £1 a point), often i test em on gnu before we start playing just so i have some expectation lol. In this day and age i think its tough to make a living from it. The online sites charge more rake for games where there is a big skill difference and the amount of time for skill to make a trend is much shorter than poker so the fish fish pool doesnt last as long. This is a cyclical problem because unlike poker the average rake paid by a fish is lower as they last longer so the affiliate business is smaller so less players are introduced. imo anyway

Also, programs make it a lot easier to reach a decent level and id say that although playing for money in BG is fun, playing for no stakes is almost as fun (unlike poker) so people see less need to gamble. All this means imo that its much harder to be a pro and learnign efforts are better spent in other games where the yield is higher.

Probability math is a heart of casino and that only in very long run.
I You know the finance of casino there are months long when they are in minus.
One thing they dont do they dont think in their games they play it and waiting for math to make its work, but if you wanna make money from BG you have to THINK all the time and play stable good all the time.

But You are human beeing you have moods you want to risk you go on tilt,
even playing very good you can loose a lot from that factors and no MATH will help you.

I am starting a match shortly with an aquaintence of mine with the following details.
1) 100 game match- no cube

2) $100 a game - $10 a chip

3) A gammonn doubles the game but not the chips, gammon =$350.00

4) 50 game buyout option for whoever is losing at that point.

5) No money changes hands till the end.

He would be an average player at best, i think this is the perfect setup for me to win a nice chunk. We will play 4or 5 hours a week till done.

The math will be on my side.
