Many tournament boards I see on the web come with 5/8"(16mm) dice.

Is it the standard in tournaments? I keep reading players prefer smaller dice (9/16"), what's true?

What do you guys use and what's most common where you play?

I prefer 5/8" (10/16") because they're easier to read, and they still roll well on a tournament-sized board.

Yeah same here, never had a problem with with the 5/8" dice myself, just wondered if it's common opinion, I've never played live outside of family games.

Thanks for the reply

I play in the Iraqi shuk (market) in Jerusalem and everyone uses microscopic dice on old wooden boards. I think they do this for two reasons. One, most of them can't afford any decent sets. Two, the dice spin like crazy and sometimes they spin for 5 or 6 seconds like a dreidel which builds up some fun tension.

It's also harder to cheat!
