Hi!

This interesting position just came up:



Pretty far behind in the race but the danger of hitting from the bar looks scary. Almost half the rolls hit another checker. But then again you still have some work to do to get your checkers out from your opponent homeboard.

What to do?

I'm doubling this position. Although there are some bad numbers, it's still difficult for red to escape, and when black does hit there are enough gammons to justify doubling. Taking is pretty clear, i think.

Yes there seems to be a good chance you can hit another checker with all 1's 2/3 5/3 and 5/6 so 17 numbers, almost half which would put your opponent into more trouble. Then again you do have some checkers that needs to get out of your opponent homeboard. A fan and 6/1-1/1 or 2/2 (3/3 not too bad either) and suddenly the tables are reversed and you're in trouble.
