GNU is prnounced Guhnooh, not G.N.U. and it's recursive acronym. It stands for GNU's Not Unix. The GNU in GNU's Not Unix stands for GNU's Not Unix, and so on forever.

The first known recursive acronym is God. God stands for God Over Detroit.

(it's actually God Over Djinn, but I prefer Detroit.)
