I just received the following error rating from a game I won which has me stumped! My opponent and I made exactly the same errors 3 and blunders 1 in a complex game. However the combined ratings of his 3 error is higher than mine 0.12 and 0.09, and his blunder rating is also higher than mine 0.13 and 0.12. Despite this, his overall error rating is lower 4.83 and 5.23 meaning I got no rating points for winning the game. This does not make sense to me?

You may have made a number of smaller errors which aren't large enough to count as an 'error' and get a yellow dot, but which still count toward the error rate.

Also, in addition to what Bill said, please note that the overall rating after a match is calculated by dividing the sum of the equities lost by the number of decisions the player made. You may have been on the bar much more often than your opponent during this match, for example, and of so, you would have had less decisions.

Yes, I have taken another look and my small errors add up to .016 and my opponents to .027 so I am still less errors, but I had three No Moves to my opponents one No Move. I did not bother to go through the game and count the forced moves, which I am assuming also count, so the difference must be in the number of decisions.

Many thanks for the advice.
