Hopefully Mr Robertie can help suggesting a good or the best book for match play? Thanks!

I think the best books were a series that Kit Woolsey wrote some time ago. It actually consists of 4 parts:

How to Play Tournament BG
Ballard v Sylvester
Marmorstein v Greiner
Lidov v Heinrich

The first book is the theoretical overview of tournament play. The other three are all high-level matches from the late 80s and early 90s with extensive commentary by Kit, showing how the ideas in "How to Play.." are applied in practice.

The matches are a little old and some checker plays and cube decisions would be incorrect by XG standards. But Kit's commentary is very good and holds up very well. I recommend the series (and especially the first book) as an essential starting place for learning tournament play.
