Can anyone explain why this is a blunder? https://imgur.com/a/10BslOm

My thinking was that I would likely need a double to win so I played 5/4 so that I could win with 6s, 5s or 4s. I was also playing a checker off a high point increasing my chances if I got two rolls.

You should distribute your checkers on as many points as possible because rolling something where no checkers are could kill you. After your move you have checkers only on 2 points. After XG's move you have checkers on 3 points.

Many thanks for that very simple explanation. I was trying to work out all of the possible permutations and possible rolls for both sides, but that is a very easy rule to remember.

I would guess that if you move one of your opponent’s checkers from his 4 point to his ace point, your move would likely be correct (and it certainly would if you moved both of them). Your opponent misses enough on 1s and 3s in the given position that you have significant winning chances even without a large double, chances that are maximized by distributing your remaining checkers over three points instead of two.
