Blast from the past! Blast from the past!

Hi!

Yesterday I received an archive of over 5000 matches! Thanks a lot! Most of these were online matches but there were a few live matches I haven't seen before and that didn't exist in Backgammon Studio. Backgammon archaeology! :-)

François Tardieu (3.40) - Falafel (2.38) 13pt Estoril 2008 R2

Ed OLaughlin (2.31) - François Tardieu (3.37) 15pt Lyon 2007 R1

Pia Jepessen (6.24) - François Tardieu (2.46) 17pt Lyon 2007 R3

Gregg Cattanach (5.55) - Kit Woolsey (2.94) 11pt Indiana Open 2006-09-03 Masters

Gregg Cattanach (5.65) - Neil Kazaross (1.99) 9pt Indiana Open 2006-09-03 R7 Main

François Coignard (10.01) - Sander Lylloff (4.23) 15pt Partouchegammon Tour Open 2007

Sander Lylloff (3.28) - Götz Hildsberg (7.51) 23pt Partouchegammon Tour Open 2007 Final

Thomas Kokholm (5.37) - Sander Lylloff (3.48) 21pt Partouchegammon Tour Open 2007

François Tardieu (3.88) - Andy Bell (7.94) 15pt Divonne Open PGT 2007

Morten Holm (0.83) - Chris Ternel (7.32) 9pt Divonne Open PGT 2007 M1

Morten Holm (2.88) - Ion Ressu (5.36) 9pt Divonne Open PGT 2007 M1

Morten Holm (3.36) - Ion Ressu (11.76) 9pt Divonne Open PGT 2007 M2

Morten Holm (3.87) - Chris Ternel (4.73) 9pt Divonne Open PGT 2007 M2

Sander Lylloff (3.73) - Rainer Witt (9.18) 9pt Divonne Open PGT 2007 M2

Mikael Sørensen (9.33) - Tardieu (4.83) 11pt Monte Carlo WC 2007 Conso

Many of these matches had rather lacking information so the above is the best I have been able to do in piecing together the correct info based on the information that were available. Some matches didn't contain enough information to identify who played the match:

Top player! :-) This was from a set of 3 matches:

2008_Master_R1M1_Wachtel.xg
2008_Master_R1M2_Wachtel.xg
2008_Master_R1M3_Wachtel.xg

It would have been nice to find out who played Bob Wachtel here. Which tournament does a best of 3 11pt matches? Perhaps Monte Carlo WC? Looking at chicagopoint I see that Bob won the Super Jackpot:

SUPER JACKPOT (32 @ 1,000 euros): 1-Bob Wachtel (USA), 2-Ary Nogueira (Brazil), 3/4-Steve Hammond (USA) / Matvey "Falafel" Natanzon (Israel).

If that is the event who did he play in the first round? But it says 'Master' in the filename so perhaps it was the Championship main event?

Best regards,
TP

Hi!

I'm continuing my search through the match archive I received and I found a few more gems!

Falafel (3.71) - Bob Wactel (3.75) 15pt Las Vegas Open 2011-11-09

Michihito Kageyama (3.46) - Bob Wactel (4.28) 15pt Las Vegas Open 2011-11-09

Falafel (3.79) - Skep (10.23) 15pt Las Vegas Open 2011-11-09

Falafel (5.03) - Konrad Fröschl (7.23) 15pt Las Vegas Open 2011-11-09

Falafel and Burak Gören (2.45) - Hilmi Göchan and Oguz User (6.42) 17pt European Pro Cyprus 2011

Konstantinos Mitrelis (6.41) - Bob Wachtel (2.53) 13pt Porto Carras 21-4-2012

Malcolm Davis (4.37) - Petko Kostadinov (2.40) 11pt Santa Fe M1_01 2012

Some sweet matchups here! This is the first match I have between Falafel (Mike Natanzon) and Robert Wachtel in the database! And the first between Michihito Kageyama and Robert Wachtel! Pretty cool! :-)

What I have to do is to go from the filename 'Falafel-Wactel15pointmatch2011-11-09.xg' (no info added in the xg file) and based on the date search for a matching date from chicagopoint:

ABT - LAS VEGAS BACKGAMMON OPEN
November 9-13, 2011; Las Vegas, Nevada
and check if the players are present in any of the results which places them at that tournament. At least Falafel was found so it is a reasonable guess that this match was from that tournament.
It is obviously better if this information is added when transcribing the match even if you don't have any immediate plans of distributing the match. Perhaps one day you decide to send your entire match archive to me? :-)

And this puts the number of matches in Backgammon Studio to 5555! Coincidence? Oh yes! :-)
