beginner's Q: doubles on MY first roll beginner's Q: doubles on MY first roll

Brand new to this game, love it, am super-excited to have 2+2 at my disposal during my development, currently midway through my second Robertie book.

Everything I can find on opening rolls starts out, "You can't roll doubles, so here's what to do the other 15 rolls..."

So my opponent starts the game rolling a 4-1, and because I'm playing other newbs, he plays 13/8. I get doubles on MY first roll. There are no hitting decisions, it's pretty much like doubles on the opening roll.

66, 55, and 11 seem pretty straight forward. How about the others?

(I am so excited to be posting about this game on 2+2.)

I'm assuming we're still talking here about the replies to 4-1 played 13/8.

The clearest roll is 44. Just make the 20-point and the 9-point. You get the best possible defensive point and a strong offensive point, with great distribution.

With 33, grab two strong offensive points with 6/3(2) 8/5(2). The alternative is 24/21(2) 13/10(2), but since your opponent hasn't started doing anything to block you in the defensive anchor isn't so valuable.

With 22, you should also build the best possible offensive position with 6/4(2) 13/11(2). Again, your opponent's feeble move means you can skip any defensive play and just build your own position quickly.

Funny, 44 was the tough one for me (and the reason I started the thread), as locking up the 5-point looked juicy, too.

Tremendously appreciative for the reply.

Here's a key idea to remember: A move that does two good things (20-pt, 9-pt) usually trumps a move that does only one good thing (5-pt).
