(beginner question) Why PartyGammon close for U.S. players? (beginner question) Why PartyGammon close for U.S. players?

Hi all,

I could understand that PG will close their poker site to U.S. poker players. But backgammon is clearly defined as a skill game in U.S. Any insights?

a wager is still a wager even if it is performed with a game of skill, a state must specifically allow the following -
(a) wagering for games of skill
(b) wagering for games of skill across state lines
(c) define backgammon as a game of skill.

To my knowledge there is no state that currently authorities point b, and a few states such as Utah do not allow point a. Technically we cannot play Backgammon, Chess, Checkers, or other similar games across state lines for money at this time but the hope is that will change in the future if Congress passes authorizations for states to enter into trade compacts with one another for inter-state wagering on skill games (which will of course define Poker as a skill game at the same time). This issue existed before the UGEIA, and even before the Wire Act - states have the autonimous right to dictate how inter-state commerce is permitted to take place and the Federal government has the right to block this interstate commerce - in essence you can say this is a constitutional issue that we all hope will be addressed during the current administration.
