Bearoff general question Bearoff general question

Suppose we hit one of our opponent's checkers during his bear off and have just closed it out, so we have no gammon to play for. How does our bear-off strategy differ from if we could play for gammon? How do the priorities of bearing off/clearing off the back point/preparing to clear off the back point shift in this case? Also, can we get a double/pass/take chart or numbers or whatever based on how many checkers he has borne off?

Robertie's 501 problems have a good chapter on it. In most cases, you clear points from the back, but when you are too far behind the race, you may want to leave blots if the number of remaining checkers is even.
