Hey everybody,

Me and mom had a discussion about backgammon today and im curious if there's any site available on the internet that allows you to play for real money wich is 100% legit for playing backgammon with real money. Same system as poker deposit cash out etc etc.

My mom is a very experienced backgammon player she's playing 35 years already and I think she can win some serious money with it lol!

Thanks in advance and for your time,

UtregJoekie

Just check out the first couple of pages off this forum. There's plenty of threads on the subject. I guess it depends on whether you are in the US or not.

In general the rake is a big obstacle unless you're very very good.

Alright so I geuss it's not worth it because of the giant rakes, I meen she's good but rake kills just like poker imo.

Not too sure you should bet on that one either

and yeah, poker rakes are small potatoes compared to backgammon rakes at the moment.

No offense to your mom, but 35 years of playing might not say much. My parents must have been playing for about that, 35 years, and they still play opening rolls such as 4-1 and 3-2 like this: 13/8 (not to mention 4-3 ==> 13/6).

No problem not feeling offensed haha! Yeah you have a point there.. Myself I have no clue about backgammon how to play it etc. I might consider to start playing it tho because it seems to be a very good fun game. And slightly less tilting as poker i assume?

miran: I dont dare betting money on it because i dont know you personally and i never underestimate people!, but i told her about your post and if there's any possibility in playing an online game for the fun and you have time for it, she's up for that haha. (than we can see if shes any good, but from what i've heard from other people she's good haha)

It is.
Tell your mom to teach you, so you two can play against each other until you learn basics.

No problem.
We can play on FIBS (you need to download client, I use JavaFIBS), and after a match I can tell you what I think about your mom's playing strength.

We can make further contact via PM, not to pollute this thread unnecessary.

I used to get SO annoyed playing backgammon when someone like my wife would beat me when playing horribly (the fact that I was playing horribly wasn't a consideration - I am much better than I was but am STILL called awful by GNU in about 95% of matches I play against the computer). I'm not as bad as I was but the swings even in a single game of backgammon can be BRUTAL compared to poker in terms of probabilities of occurances.

Hi,

UtrechtJoekie,

I am from the Netherlands too, Groningen,

we play every 2 weeks on the 1st, 3rd (and 5th) sunday of the week in Cafe Atlantis in Groningen. At 16.15 we start, your mother is always welcome if she comes to the north.

We play for very small money, we pay 5 euro per person and then play a knockout or an all-play-all tournament (depending on the number of persons, sometimes only 3 sometimes 8),

The winner gets about 3/4 of the total, and the second gets about his money back. It's not a lot of money it's more for the fun of the game.

But if your mother is willing to spend (and maybe win) more money, she might consider going to a tournament in Amsterdam of Rotterdam.

The Amsterdam Backgammon Club plays three times a week for inlay 10,20,or 30 (take a look at their website).

The Backgammon Club Rotterdam has an inlay of 100 euro. (they also have a website)

greetings k.
