Backgammon clubs / social groups question Backgammon clubs / social groups question

Hi All

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I was wondering what the “daily business” of a backgammon club is?
Individual games, tournaments, chouettes, match play, money play, playing for cash or for points only, running a league, etc?

I ask as where I am, the backgammon scene at the moment involves three of us playing a weekly chouette. If one of us can’t make it, the game is off! Also, we’re all at more or less the same level, so are kind of just passing money around to each other and not really learning as quickly as we could with a wider group of players.

I’m sure I could quite easily expand the group with an advert or some such, but would like to have it clear in my head exactly what the best plan would be for a weekly meeting with a larger group of people before I do that.

So, maybe a better question is, what is the right plan for a weekly get-together with 8 to 10 people?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not a silly question at all.

If you've got 8-10 local people with an interest in backgammon, the most common arrangement would be a weekly tournament for the first 8 people who show up. As people get knocked out, they will then form chouettes.

If everybody in your group prefers chouettes to tournaments, you could have a chouette evening, with a couple of chouettes going at different stakes.

The tournament arrangement is better at attracting new players, because their financial risk is limited to whatever the entry fee is for the tournament.

Another idea is to do a tournament once a month on a set day (say the second Tuesday) but let it be known that there's also a chouette night every Tuesday for those who want more backgammon.

Apologies if I am asking in the wrong forum or thread. I am looking for online backgammon and found a site called Netgammon... are there others that I might try before paying for a membership?

Netgammon is fine and I tried Gammon Site too are there any others?

Thank you ahead of time
