So i played backgammon with my girlfriend and one of my bearing off move triggered a major ****storm. let me display the situation and please tell me if i was right to do that move.

i played white and she played black. in this situation i rolled a 5 -2. i could not take anything from 5 nor make a move with the piece from 6, leaving me with " no " other option then taking a piece from 2. what i did was moving 2 pips with the piece from 6 to position 4, now my position 5 and 6 were empty and then i took a piece from position 4. as a result i managed to do both rolled dices, 2 first then 5. is this a legal move or not? the picture below will help you explain.

Thank you very much and good luck!

Yes, 6/4/off is a legal move and in fact it's forced in this position. It's the only way you can play both a legal 2 (6/4) and a legal 5 (4/off, since now there is no checker on a higher point).

Hope this helps.

If your girlfriend doesn't know this rule, that's a deal breaker.

The last time my wife Jackie played me at backgammon was many years ago. She was/is a good player but I had really started putting a lot of time in and was beating her most times. Anyway we were in Raratonga on holiday and we played a 9 point match. She won. She then closed the board and said "that is the last time I will play you at Backgammon, but I want you to remember I kicked your butt the last time we played".

6 years later a couple from the backgammon club (who played everyday) were at our place. Jackie had not played for 6 years. They wanted to play individual games so challenged us. Jackie agreed as long as he did not have to play me. So I beat them but what floored them was Jackie destroyed them. She had to ask what some of the opening moves were but she destroyed them. They could not believe it - they were shaken.

If both of you are competive (like us) it can be hard to keep playing, but do try and try to get better together.
