Hi Bill,

In the abovementioned blog you present an idea involving breaking a front point while attacking a massive backgame.

You suggest that recent (2018) computer programs need a rollout before putting your suggested move 16/11 7/1 on top of the list.

I then was curious how GNU would do, and much to my surprise it placed your move clearly on top (with an equity difference of -0.078) and I didn't even have to put it on 4-ply (3-ply was enough).

Is GNU especially strong on backgames, or were the bots mentioned in your blog a lot older?

The article was originally written around 2005 when Snowie was state of the art, and it didn't play back games especially well. (OK but not great.)

XG plays normal back games very well and its rollouts are even better. I don't know anything about GNU because I never use it.
