I'm trying to learn how to play backgammon so we can introduce it to our home games. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to play this game?

Start with an easy, accessible beginner's book, so you get the basic ideas down pat. I'll recommend "Backgammon for Winners", because I wrote it, but there are others. Don't bother with the bots until you save some idea of what you're trying to do and why. After that, a bot will be a big help.

Try practicing at some of the free online sites like Yahoo and MSN. Practice a lot, and supplement the play with reading. After awhile the general idea will make sense, and then you'll be ready to move on.

There are many books available to help you learn the game. If you are planning on playing online I suggest always betting with the banker.
