6-4 to play, 2 variants

Variant A:

White - Pips 132 (+3)

Black - Pips 129 (-3)
Black to Play 6-4
Created with Diagram Builder

Variant B:

White - Pips 131 (+2)

Black - Pips 129 (-2)
Black to Play 6-4

Is your play different or the same in Var A and Var B and why?

Re: 6-4 to play, 2 variants

In position A, I would play 22/16 5/1*, because the blitz looks plausible and there's nothing else attractive. And it seems like an OK time to get off the anchor with White on the bar, duplicated 1s and the stronger board.

I'm a little leery about leaving the anchor in position B due to White significantly improved home front, so I don't like 22/16 5/1* as much anymore. But I'm not sure between 13/7 13/9, 13/7 5/1* or 8/4 8/2? Or the same play could be right, I guess.

I'll try 13/7 5/1* though.

Re: 6-4 to play, 2 variants

The super-important common feature of the positions is that black is frontloaded and, thus, will be starved for timing and have a hard time improving his position naturally. For that reason, he will be looking to accelerate the crisis of the position and make something happen. In position 1, he has some freedom to try running because the white position is still incomplete. Best version of this should be the hit-and-split 16 and 1*.
Position 2 you really should keep the anchor and try to improve with quick offense. I would play 7 and 1* and try to get a quick attack or 5-prime.

Re: 6-4 to play, 2 variants

I would agree with the logic, however XG says:

Variant A (with a blot on her 5pt) - hit with 13/7 is correct, splitting is wrong by 0.070
Variant B (her 5pt is covered) - equally ok to either 13/7 or split.

So it is quite opposite to what I would expect. Probably her blot on 5pt suggest going all in.
