I don't want a hitting war until I take care of my 1-point, so I won't be moving my back or 12-point checkers yet.

I could play the pure waiting game: 6/1 5/1 and see what white leaves next.

Now, I think I'm leaning toward 5/1 8/3. I have fixed the problem at home, brought in a builder for the 2-point, and left white with duplicated 4s.

On the other hand, if I am hit first and stay on the bar, I need to be thinking about a possible double down the road. That leans things back toward waiting, but by how much?

In the moment I would probably play the waiting game, and wonder if I am playing too meekly.

In these late mutual holding games outfield control is key. Here the first thing I look for is to jump out with both back checkers if I don't leave a direct. I would buy time, stay flexible, keep control and pressure. Unfortunately 22/17 22/18 leaves too many shots. I'd strongly consider 22/18 6/1 though. Even up the boards, spread control, risk not too much with such low amount of White's builders up front. With such strong boards, leaving a shot inside opponent's board is also better than leaving the same shot outside as many of her hits will be loose hits which can be counter hit. Yeah, 6/1 5/1 is safe, but leaves a stripped inflexible position that can backfire soon.

I'd go with 22/18 6/1 over 6/1 5/1.
