Splitting can't be right with the blot on the 7-point, so I'm making the 4-point, 3-point, or 2-point. The 2-point is kind of appealing because it's a point and there's almost no risk. The 3-point looks a little loose. But I like making the best point available, even if it leaves a shot, so I'll make the 4-point. Now I'm threatening to make the bar with a great position, and even if I get hit White only has a 2-point board.

Bill, why does the 7 point blot have a bearing on splitting? Is it just the extra ammo white has in the region?

It's just that your position is looser, with more hitting and double-hitting numbers around the board for your opponent. Put the blot on the 7 back on the 8 or up on the 5 and your opponent has fewer ways to hurt you.

In that case I'd still make the 4-point, but 24/20 has gone up in value, relatively speaking. When your position is loose you need to think about consolidating rather than creating new blots. Very important idea.
