I think slotting the bar point is an unnecessary risk. We should come out with the 5, giving us 19 shots to pick up a second blot and move 3 to 2.

Why not move all the way out with 22/16? 3/2 doesn't really do anything. Same number of hitting chances and one step close to home, but still out of reach of the checker on the 9 point.

The only difference I can see is that if we stay on the 17 point and white rolls 5-1, we get 14 shots instead of 12. I think this has more value than being one step closer to home.

Also, now your double 3s now hit the second guy as opposed to however you'll play it if you stay back. You're only worried about exactly 31, but that isn't so bad as you'll have a return shot from the bar.
