8/4 7/4 is probably right, but I don't know if I could play it. I prefer a solid 4-prime to a gapped 5-prime, especially when the blot leaves the opponent with an easy 6.

OTOH, running from the back is also risky. You give the opponent a chance to overwhelm you.

I would also run. There aren't that many numbers that hit and cover for our opponent, and breaking our prime looks nasty.

In general, when you have 2 and 8 like this with opp anchored on 1 you are really looking for chances to use the guys on the 8 to fill in the inside. Meanwhile, your anchor provides a lot of security in case things go poorly. I'm guessing, however, that the big swing in the equity of the two plays is gammon losses. You just don't get gammoned as long as you hold your anchor. When you run, things can go really, really badly.

The problem is that what you actually have is a doubly-gapped 4-prime. The 8 is not restraining him directly. Meanwhile, you are facing a very strong blocking position on the other side of the board.
