The 11th Annual Carolina Invitational Backgammon Championship was held over the Labor Day holiday this year. The tournament was a huge success, and featured much streaming of live matches.

At BGO, I posted a list of almost 50 matches for which video and match files are available.

Everyone involved in the streaming and transcription process deserves a lot of kudos -- this represents an incredible amount of work.

Going through matches slowly and treating them as quizzes (what would I do here?) is one of the best ways of improving your play.

Phil Simborg Plays a Pr of 0.54. How sick is that?

That would be far and away the lowest PR ever played by a human in a recorded match. No disrespect to Phil, but there might be a typo involved.

I downloaded the match and stand corrected. The 0.57 figure is correct. It was a two-game match, however, basically decided by a redoubled gammon in the first game.

In a two-game blow-out, anything can happen. There was one match in Charlotte that lasted only one game. The winner's PR was over 30!

What impresses me more, however, is the consistent way that Victor Ashkenazi turns in sub-3.0 PRs almost every time he plays. In the six matches at Charlotte that have been transcribed to date, his PRs were 2.69, 2.87, 3.56, 2.80, 3.14, and 2.08.

Victor has quietly become one of the best in the world. I think he should be a top-five Giant. The only problem is figuring out whom he should replace!
