If you could describe heaven, what would it be like? A place where everything is perfect inevitably it would become boring. If we all walked around happy and in a blissful state then that would become normally, in fact it would be nothing because there is no other way to be to compare it to.

What would you do forever? You would inevitably learn everything and do everything (whatever those things may be) you would be bored out of your mind. Because no one wants to be God!

Would you really want to live forever? Think it through to the end, would you really want to live forever? You want a mystery, you want a surprise, you want to feel alive with risks and the unknown, because you can't have a good surprise without a bad surprise.

What dream would you have, if you could dream any dream you wanted, maybe you would be the hero where everything was perfect, win all the poker'z, get all the girls, have loads of money. Maybe after a while that gets boring, so maybe you dream fighting dragons, getting hurt while rescuing the princess in her high tower. Perhaps you have a rival but know you are always going to win and its to easy. How far could you go? You keep adding more and more danger, more and more of the unknown, more and more challenges but know that you are going to wake up. Eventually you would dream where you are now, thinking it as real as well....real as could be. You lost yourself in the dream, playing a role not knowing whats going to happen when you die (wake up), this is heaven (not knowing that it is) this is what you wanted, a surprise, a mystery.

plugging your brain directly into a machine that makes you feel amazing 24/7, forever.

you think you'll get bored? the machine turns that boredom into amazeballz euphoria, rinse + repeat.

etc.

boredom, goals, dreams, and challenges are all mind created, thoughts are telling you "you need this", "you need to do that" and then once you achieve your goals, thoughts again tell you "you need to do this"

Imagine if there were no thoughts telling you what to do, that you were totally absorbed in whatever was going on now, with no thoughts about what happened in the past, or what was going to happen in the future. Simple pleasure in the phenomena ( or is it noumena, I always get confused) that are happening right now. Boredom doesnt exist in that state.

It's not that you would get bored but being in that state all the time would be normal because you have no other experience to compare it to.

Also it would be boring after a certain amount of time.

Good thing there’s no ‘time’ in heaven (eternity). From Aquinas:
244. As we have to penetrate composite things in order to reach simple things, so we must go through time to come to the knowledge of eternity. In successive changes where one part follows another we apprehend time by numbering the before and after in movement. There is no before and after to be reckoned in constant and changeless reality. The form of eternity lies in the apprehension of that uniformity. Furthermore those things are measured by time which have a temporal beginning and end; what is wholly invariable and without succession has neither beginning nor end.

245. Some seize on this as the difference between time and eternity, that time has beginning and end, but eternity not. This difference, however, is quite incidental and not essential; for even granting that time always was and always will be, there still remains this difference between them, that eternity is simultaneously whole, whereas time is not. Eternity is the measure of permanence; time the measure of change.

248. The apprehension of time is caused by the perception of the changing instant, the apprehension of eternity by that of the enduring instant.

249. The now of time is not time, the now of eternity is really the same as eternity.

In heaven, my wife would have a hot twin and polygamy would be cool

Delete boredom and habituation and the problem is solved.

We could also invite some sad sack for proper comparison if necessary.

I don't see why some end where "all is completed" should factor in. Even with today's knowledge we think it is possible to create universes where the laws of nature function differently, and if "eternal life" is possible then obviously energy is unproblematic and the possibility for permutations would be equally endless.

My idea of heaven is that *I* am not in it: all of my foibles, the lies I live out, the man I am (compared to the man I want to be)-- those just can't be there with me. The way I slide into sin and immorality without even realizing that I have become thoroughly debauched until I have fallen apart and need help to put myself back together. The bitter, angry, rebellious side of me. The way that I often find myself. When I find myself manipulating loved ones and pulling emotional cons on friends and foes alike. The way that I excuse myself from obligations through demented logics, laziness, defeatism and fear. That I can't imagine myself free from fear. Anxiety. The way I bring my life to rock bottom, then rebound into shock and awe, then sleepwalk into domestication whereby a rot sets in (fear of death) and the cycle begins again, and the inevitable self-induced implosion, again.

But there is another me, thankfully-- I was a child, and innocent, and good inside, and grecian-haired. Pre-puberty. I would have done anything for anybody. The one that hid my best friend in my bedroom closet to keep him from his abusive father till my mother was called into the police station... I expect only to find HIM in heaven. That me. The "child inside." Before the political wargames of adulthood. So, my idea of heaven is akin to retaking lost territory. It was all mine to begin with. I am returning to land that I was forcibly removed from.

for the sake of this thread i guess the best way to describe what i'm referring to is an altered state of consciousness, where the normal rules (about which you write) do not apply. concepts such as boredom and time and whatnot simply may not exist when you are experiencing heaven, whatever that may be.

It's called a happy robot, I think.

But you do bring up a good point, there are drugs like DMT, LSD etc....that change the state of consciousness (or so I'm told) I would love to try these drugs but it's against the law which is a shame.

some people can have euphoric experiences that they describe as being spiritual when they take drugs like the ones you mentioned, these states are also possible without taking drugs believe it or not, or at least some of them are (being chased around the fairground by a giant man-eating orange perhaps only while on lsd, thankfully).

What are some of the other ways to achieve this state?

well firstly there are many different "states" you can get into when experimenting with banned substances, i would argue some have mystical/spiritual implications while others don't. secondly, of the ones that do I guess a major recurring theme revolves around the following:

If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow breaks of his cavern.

it would seem the "altered state" in a sense is actually closer to a truer vision of whatever life is, by way of comparison to our everyday blinkered humdrum.

i have occassionally had glimpses of states like this, usually when alone, in contemplation, maybe taking a walk, perhaps focussing my thoughts on certain things besides work, women, poker, gym, paying the rent etc. i guess it's there for everyone if they look for it, but it requires stepping off the beaten track of everyday life somewhat.
