Sometimes I lurk this forum, just out of anthropological curiosity.

I was wondering why people post here at all, it seems like two sides shouting at a wall most of the time.

Are the religious trying to win converts?

Are the atheists basically all just this guy?

Does anything constructive ever happen in this subforum?

Just curious.

It's just an interesting topic IMO. Also, as a ancillary benefit I've learned how to better phrase my arguments to support my conclusions. Posters like Aaron and RLK really keep you on your toes.

and yes, there is plenty of beneficial back and forth here, including volumes of information for the curious seeker.
(let's not forget about MeMe's like mine)

it's all good, especially if you are aware of the origin of the intent that caused you to pose the question.

This forum discusses a lot questions of our existence. Who are we, why are we here, how did we get here and what is this universe we live in and how did it get here. Don't know if you would consider me an atheist but if i dont believe in God why shouldn't i post about these things?

I like being write about things and proving people wrong. I also like becoming more knowledgeable by arguing against people with coherent points. Lastly, I don't expect many minds to change here, which is why I pick and choose my battles. There is sport in arguing intelligently. I guess there might also be sport in arguing harder than other people (Limbaugh style), but that's clearly the terrible way to go about discussion.

I'm on a spiritual journey, and a search for spiritual truth, that will last until the day I die.

That's why I post here.

I have one forum to post on to argue with right leaning people, and this forum covers the lefties. (yes there is cross over into religion imo, as it all boils down to impact on law...)

It's like I'm preparing for an epic trial where I'll need to battle the left and the right.

Deut. 28:14 and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

So, let me get this straight. 6000 years ago, a guy put chisel to stone, and told you, in the year 2012, to prepare for an epic battle between liberals and conservatives.

Sweet.

I'll have what he's having....

Epic battle aside...

Ecclesiastes 10:2 A wise man's heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man's heart directs him toward the left. (but still as I pointed out, the proper way is the middle)

God's laws are good for ...the less intelligent, as they get a free plot of land. (num 33:54) If they're foolish and sell it, their family gets it back after 50 years. So it has a socialistic aspect. They'll pretty much always have their land to grow food, and they didn't have to pay for it.

The smarter guys who would prefer things to be more "hands off" still have a lot of freedom, (compared to todays 10k plus regulations) and there are no taxes except providing for feasts. But they can't own all of the land (have to give it back on the Jubilee every 50 years) and oppress the poor. (enslave them by eventually owning all of the land, then the poor needing to come to them for jobs)

God's laws are the definition of the center.

I came to the conclusion a while ago that both the left and the right are only partly right so I can't claim to be either.

OP, maybe atheists are trying to win converts.

I feel like I owe it to the people for zealously spreading religious ideas for so long before I became an atheist.
I like to be a part of a group (atheists).
I've got a lot of opinions on this topic that I would like to share with other people.
Most of people here seem ok, some people use ******ed arguments and are very unreasonable, though.
I like reading myself.
