Nono. You don't have to believe in Satan to be a Satanist. Besides, Satan is to religion what Dracula is to fiction anyway. He pops up all over the place.

Personally I think it is because he is a good character, in the narrative sense that is. Most of the biblical characters are a bit bland, with David and Satan as honorable exceptions. David, however, is invariably tied to Abrahamic religion whereas Satan's narrative is more universal.

2. Most Christians already believe they're freerolling life so this thread changes nothing for them

Not really the same, Zeus is part of history because the Greeks were significant and still discussed, still taught about. It's possible Satan will be discussed in the same manner in 1500 years after having first faded into obscurity but at the moment he's part of a current and influential religious meme and discussing him helps perpetuate that meme.

The other day my niece said that she thought Barcelona the capital of Spain. I told her that Madrid, not Barcelona, is not the capital of Spain. How we laughed when she pointed out that - by the mere fact I was talking about her error - I was implicitly perpetuating the idea that Barcelona is the capital of Spain.

Damn it, now I've just perpetuated that idea to the whole of RGT. "Barcelona is the capital of Spain" is really freerolling this thread now.
