Judgement Day
There are numerous Bible passages that describe the worst disaster mankind will experience (indefinitely), and the best possible scenario anyone could hope for (forever). I'm shooting to understand the better of the two options because I'm terrified, excited and curious.
If a person is spared by God on that day (hidden from wrath), it's because God chose to do so AND that person sought God. It's also the day that people will be made "right" again, or whole.
Present Day
No wonder Christians are terrible...we're (and I use we with hesitance...not sure about myself) broken, evil, corrupt beings fully exposed to the risk of eternal ruin unless spared by God AND ..."our part".
So what is a Christian's "part", and what does it look like???

There are probably more views on exactly what leads to salvation and what that salvation is than there are Christian denominations. Which is a convoluted way of saying that this a topic of a lot of theological debate and disagreement, even among those who claim to share the same faith.
I mean, it ranges from predestination (there is no free will, all is god's will) to Arminianism (god does not interfere with free will), so it's probably better to describe exactly the view you are challenging.
Note that my definitions of the terms above are very simplistic, they encompass fare more than the short sentences I use to describe them
