Girls Basketball Coach Fired After 100-0 Win

I don't think the coach should be fired over this. If anything, the losing coach should be the one fired for allowing the beating to continue. If this were a boxing match blood would be on the losing coach's hands for not throwing in the towel.

Wow. It did make me feel a little bad once I found out about the other school.

But I do not see that the coach did anything wrong. As you said, why wouldn't the other coach step in and call it quites?

In my opinion, there is nothing christianlike about what the school did in firing the coach.

I don't think its the winning coach's fault.

The losers are winless over 4 seasons. They may not be capable of competing at a normal level because of their natural disadvantages. Like middle schoolers trying to play in a bigger league.

That means there was an assessment problem. Maybe they shouldn't be playing "competitively" but just for fun.

Special Olympics only play other Special Olympics teams, don't they?

Arguably correct. Ecclesiastes 9:11.

I do not understand what you are getting at here.

I'm joking. The passage is 'descriptive' (saying how it is) whereas my post implied it was 'prescriptive' (saying how it should be, how a Christian should live, etc...). Incongruity = classic humour.

It's a sad thing that happened. But its actually the losing school administration's fault.

If they have had 4 winless seasons there's a good possibility they can't play at the level they are playing and their own school should have noticed.

Why would they allow their students to court reinforced inferiority complexes?

I think I agree with this. I think the losing coach could have walked over to the other coach to concede the game, but then let them play the out the clock, and I think most people would be pleased with the result. But playing out the game is a perfectly reasonable way to conclude the game, too. Playing hard until the end is a good message to send.

Should the winning coach tell his team, "Just let them score and turn over the ball a bunch so that they can make the score look 'respectable'?" That just seems silly.

(I am assuming for now that the winning coach had already put the scrubs in, which is a reasonable sportsmanlike gesture.)

Edit: Splendour's point about the administration is good, too.

Firing the coach is so dumb.

AND HOW CAN YOU NOT SCORE ONE SINGLE POINT??????????????????????????

I wonder how many free throws the losing team missed to stay scoreless lol.

the fact that such a trivial activity could bring so much controversy about christian values is a perfect example of how stupid people are.

I think its most likely the result of one person's convoluted point of view.

Sometimes Christians get overly zealous about loving kindness and lose their common sense.

absurd that the coach was fired. And I'm glad he stood up for himself and his tam when the school released that stupid e-mail saying the win was "shameful."
