What Are Your Values? What Are Your Values?

I ran across this on Google -
--------------------------------
"What are First Nations values?

These teachings stressed Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility and Truth as the values that enable people to live in a way that promotes harmony and balance with everyone and everything in creation.May 2, 2017"
========================

I respect those values and might add Empathy and Kindness. What are your values and why do you honor them? Is it to "promote harmony and balance "? Where did you get your values and why did you accept them? Or do you reject the whole notion? Have religions had a role in promoting such values in our culture? How do such values get transmitted to new generations?

What about values like Power, Money, Deceit, Trickery, Thievery, Cheating, Winning by any means? In a culture that generally honors the former list but often practices the latter, where do you stand and why?

I suspect the first list promotes a less stressful, happier life that's met with less hostility from others.

I love the Native American spirituality myself. Western values going massively toward materialism (to fill emptiness), selfishness, greed, financial wealth, diversion, entertainment, image, status, vainglory, dishonesty, disingenuousness, know-it-all crap, cocksure BS, rudeness, gratification. Not a good list. Of course that is the mainstream but not the whole story. A big undercurrent against that grain is present and rising.

I love humility over arrogance or showiness or trash talking. Above all, valuing living from and realizing the true self as opposed to all these forms of mask projections, and respecting and aiding that path in others. Easier said than done, for sure. There's is a reason that masks are ubiquitous, universal. Yet we can tack against that even in ourselves. A good value. The ultimate value of humanism, I think.

Integrity. I expect it of myself and others.
I mean what I say, I do what I say I will do, I own my mistakes, I expect others to own their own mistakes.
I speak the truth even if its painful, I don't steal even if I think I can get away with it.

I don't do mental-gymnastics or devise elaborate rationales when confronting failure, I dissect and analyze it.
I immediately break contact with low integrity environs (professional or social) and cut low integrity people out of my life.

I prioritize it- as a character trait or a business trait- over absolutely everything else.

I don't care if you're nice. I don't care if you're kind. I don't care if you serve as an acolyte in your church, donate to Wounded Warriors or build homes for Habitat for Humanity. All of those things mean nothing and are often used as a mask for otherwise awful people. The only thing that matters to me (and how I'm teaching my own kids to confront the world) is integrity.

I think just making it a priority to be nice to others keeps you good for life. As long as you keep that a priority it leads to all other good traits.
