In a certain sense that is true. Not being a "waste of a person" means you engage in specifically selfish behaviors, after due consideration, and with an unconscious nod to the powerful forces of evolution.

Sure, a nice blend of selfish and unselfish is what the recipe seems to call for. They make each other taste better.

Honesty first and foremost, honor a close second, being fair for third and duty for fourth.

A brief summary would be that (for me) a good person is forthright, honors his word, holds the view that principle and actions should be applied fairly to all people and accepts cultural obligations that comply with those principles.

This would of course sometimes necessitate other virtues, such as courage, but these would be consequences more than what I hold as cardinal virtues.
