Mixed news - Christianity declining 50pc faster than thought – as one in 10 under-25s is a Muslim

Quote:
They disclosed that there were in fact 5.3 million fewer British-born people describing themselves as Christians, a decline of 15 per cent in just a decade.
That's fewer than 10% of the population. A stark contrast with the USA at 73%. Of course it's a long game for religions and in 50 years it could flip again.

I think you must be misreading that? The part you quoted shows how much it dropped by, not what it's dropped to. Or maybe I'm misreading you.

I was referring to the 5.3 million that identify as Christian, that's under 10% of the population of the UK.

I think it's fair to say that all religious followers will be in massive decline as the next few generations turn over. Not just Christianity but all if them... Discuss

"Keith Porteous Wood, executive director of the National Secular Society, said the long-term reduction of Christianity, particularly among young people, was now “unstoppable”.

“In another 20 years there are going to be more active Muslims than there are churchgoers,” he said"

Why is this atheist clown Islamophobic ? They are not supposed to believe in any God.

Why is it Islamophobic to extrapolate the fact that most Christians in the UK are 50+ and most Muslims are under 25. Pretty obvious that if this trend continues the largest active religious group in the UK will be Islam. It is only Islamophobic if you think there is a need to do something about this.

It was not said in a positive way and nor should it be relevant to an atheist who presumably believes in Christian Gods and Islam's God just the same ie not at all. I live in the UK and the truth is that Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Islam and Christianity are all in decline here. THAT trend will continue. This article is just right-wing Islamophobic scaremongering. The Telegraph is a right-wing newspaper.

Just FYI, Cwocwoc is an career-troll. Most of us just have him on ignore.

You don't like anything challenging like the truth do you zumby ? You are also somewhat ill-mannered with it.

Really? The tone of his single sentence factual statement was not positive? The rest of the article doesn't even mention Islam. So far only Splendour ever made it to my ignore list but this answer makes it look like Zumby is correct. Throw out the Islamophobic and see who bites.

Islam/Muslims are mentioned half a dozen times in the article including in the title. Do you have trouble reading ? If you want support zumby whilst being rude to me do it but at least try to be honest about it.

I don't think that what cwocwoc is suggesting is beyond the realms of possibility. The Telegraph IS a right wing paper and may well have an alarmist agenda in mind. Which won't be cause for me to remove him from my ignore list though.

I love the CoE's response, that there are different types of Christian from the 'committed worshiper' (they think this is a good thing?) to the 'nominal Christian' and seek to show the decline in church attendance as proof of how Christianity has appeal and relevance across a diverse range of believers. lol?

The last time the census was taken, the number of people describing themselves as Christians was [X + 5.3m]. Now it's X, which is presumably around 30m. The second paragraph of the article even says:

It suggests that only a minority of people will describe themselves as Christians within the next decade, for first time.
