Theology and trolls

It seems to me that theology based forums are the natural breeding ground of trollus familiarus. I would love to see a much more productive interchange of ideas between believers and non believers.

I have fairly strong atheistic views to the point where I would definately like to be able to convert a theist. I enjoy the challenge of an intellectual debate but have little time for fueding and petty point scoring.

Before venturing onto this section, I would have assumed that the trollish posters would mainly be Chiristians / other theists. This is for two reasons:

1 Ultimately theistic belief is not founded in logic. Logical arguments can be made for belief in God (although I personally believe that the logical arguments against it are stronger) but even most christians must surely agree that they were not led to faith through logic

2 I don't like trolls and I agree with the atheists. As a human being I am prejudiced. Therefore I am predisposed to believe that people with whom I agree on a particular point will generally act in ways of which I approve.

I have been very disappointed to see the high levels of trollishness among athiests.

Whatever your views on deity, I think we can all agree that the first commandment of forum use is Don't be a troll

You have to spell correctly to have an intellectual debate.

I don't think productive interchange between believers and unbelievers tends to involve conversion. But trolls can build whole cities - just look at NVG.

Re: Theology and trolls

hey now im pro-troll... but if we define troll as someone that messes with authority and challenges people and their systems then jesus can only be defined as one

Technically I would say NVG is closer to squatters than builders.

Yeah, let's rephrase: Go forth and multiply you and your mother!

Or should I turn the other cheek? Have you got something nasty or disrespectful to say about my father? My race perhaps? I'd actually prefer that over dissing Jesus or my religion.

I'm a Deist, and by your definition, I'm probably going to troll just about everybody, atheist and theist alike...

Of course, I don't necessarily accept your definition of "troll".
