Agreed, I can't imagine an atheist being yes on any of these things.

You should come to a country where atheism is more mainstream, and I'll show you many atheists who believe in tarot, crystals, ghosts, healers and whatnot while simultanously stating quite categorically that "god does not exist".

I agree. Where atheism is the default, you can't infer anything about their other beliefs (ironically a claim often made on this forum where it probably isnt true).

Not sure why you think that. I don't think belief in any of those things is any more ridiculous than believing Jesus was born from a virgin and came back from the dead, or that Muhammad flew to heaven on a horse, etc, etc.

I do find it interesting that so many theists are able to to spot the absurd in just about every instance except for when the absurd occurs in their holy book of choice. Then they willingly accept it.

If I was in the religion business, I would see such a place as fertile territory to pick up converts.

You have a very simplistic view of what theism is. That weakness in your understanding is the reason you cannot understand the outcome of your survey and indicates that your atheism is not enlightened at all. You are just blindly following a different dogma.

Yep. Most atheists I know have some unsupported beliefs and won't fit the "typical atheist on 2+2" model.

This is why the "santa claus" comment fits. Many people believe in lucky shirts and pyramid power that don't believe in god. They think their belief has some grounds, just as a theist believes theirs does. To a non-believer in either, they both fall under "believing in stuff without worthy evidence".
Question them and you'll get versions of -- "I can show you my winnings when I wore the red shirt - show me your god"

Not really. I've studied several different religions in detail (which most theists have not; they know a lot about one and almost nothing about the others).

Choosing to not accept miraculous claims that are not supported by proof is not blindly following something. It's basically the exact opposite.

It is a simple, undeniable, and fascinating (to me at least) fact that most religious people readily reject almost every other baseless superstition except their own.

Why is that?

I used to teach chemistry so I recognize that there is a big difference between studying and understanding.

And you would be horribly wrong in assuming so.

Organized religion comes with a lot more than some superstitious beliefs, and around here I would usually say it's the remaining package that leaves so many people to view it in a negative light. The political squabbles, the conservatism, the lack of egality, the lack of compromise etc...and the issues are so huge that having a fair bit of charitable followers just isn't enough to make it go away.

It's not the general idea of "god" that drives most people away, it's the seemingly horrible (and empirically unsupported) nature of the specified ones.

But fine if that's how you wanna play this game, Most of my Christian friends believe in zombies and werewolves

I can tell you right here and now an atheist will NEVER have an unsupported belief. N E V E R

This argument of "atheists i know believe in this and that and blabla" seriously has to GO, no atheist on this forum believes in ANY of that

There are even atheistic religions that are based on belief in spirits and ghosts (animalism, various forms of shamanism etc), so your post does not really compute unless it's some sort of poorly worded sarcasm.

There's one. (Unless you're not a true atheist, of course - whatever that means).
