why do atheists feel it is necessary to advertise on a school bus. i thought they wanted to let people make up their own minds. when i was in school i was never taught anything about religion unless i enrolled voluntarily into a certain class. but now it seems like atheists thank it is necessary to make it a point to let everyone know that they don't believe in God.

it was in response to christians putting up signs and advertisements in public places trying to convert people to christianity.

more of a statement against advertisements about god, rather than trying to convert people to atheism

The campaign began as a response to Christian ads on the buses, which, among other things, told groups of people they would burn in a lake of fire.

Interesting how you had no problem with theistic and VIOLENT adverts.

When asking yourself "why do atheists have to advertise on a bus" did you also ask yourself "why does one nation under god" have to be in the pledge?

because the people that wrote it believed it at that time. thats why none of them had a problem putting it in their.

They were running on london buses in June 2008. The ads had URLs which among other things claimed all non-christians would burn for eternity in a lake of fire.

the word "god" doesn't advertise a particular religion. putting it on money and in the pledge of allegiance just makes people of all religions happy, and makes atheists/agnostics laugh. win win imo

It doesn't advertise a particular religion but it does single out some religions. For instance, polytheists. So by outing polytheists they are in a way endorsing monotheism which isn't much different from endorsing a particular religion.

I'm sure there was a lawsuit about the motto on the US money and they concluded that the word God had lost all specific meaning in relation to that phase. I may be wrong though.
