I don't think it even rises to that level. She was ad-libbing. There is not a person on earth who could not be made to look ridiculous if an entire outrage industry went over their every utterance.

I mean, look at your name. Very poor choice of words if Fox News is gonna run headlines saying you misspelled dunces, and what you really meant is that we should enslave the slow-witted. Then they'll find a Twitter handle with dunce in it and say it's yours.

Tame, you are no different from Confederate slave holders. Whipping, beating, raping, blood spattering, when did you ever denounce those? Etc.

The fact that she was not even more blunt about 9/11 shows that she is disingenuous to a great degree, and not just because of political reasons.

Do you see why?
Meh. I think this is a misread that people here in RGT should be able to catch. People want to read this as implying that she is secretly sympathetic to Islamism, but more likely to me is that Omar is using the same kind of No True Scotsman ploy that we've seen many Christians use to defend their own religion's history of terror and violence. Referring to the 9/11 as "some people did something" is a way of dissociating them from being "true" Muslims (because their actions were against the true teachings of Islam) and minimizing their actions as a way of deflecting blame from those actions falling on innocent Muslims.

I see your point OP and listened to the context of the speech, but I still think there is room for some criticism - in that being a very articulate and intelligent women and a member of congress she certainly could have expressed the sentiment you are implying more clearly, if her intent was as you describe. For example - '9/11 was not done by true Muslims or honest followers of the prophet.' No ambiguity and very clear in intent. I think you may be overreaching somewhat. Anyway, at the very least, IMO, I think Tame_deuces observation stands.

Also some of her statements in reference to Jews (Israel) are certainly suspect. But that's another issue and off topic. I do however stand by the fact that freedom of expression is paramount - She has the guaranteed liberty to express herself as she sees fit.
