The sabbath is on saturday - Page 2 - Religion, God, and Theology

The sabbath is what it is, friday night and saturday day. This is probably more than trivial in Gods view, as its observance is a commandment and its violation carries the death penalty.

Yes. People who follow Old Testament injunctions should be observing the Sabbath beginning at dusk on Friday. They should be doing a lot of other weird things, too.

Meh, maybe I can speculate on the purpose of the sabbath.

-day set aside to teach your kids the law (so they won't forget and be "enslaved" again-or if you prefer "job")

-gives everyone a break from work (which is probably farming on your own free land that is unsellable under the law), including animals

-becomes ingrained into the peoples minds, on the 7th day (or millenium), its too late to work (a different kind of work in this sense), so you better work while you can. (I'd say this aspect could only be understood today)

The Sabbath is seven days a week. Christ is our Sabbath. Rest in Christ everyday.

If you are referring to before Christ. I'm not sure. I would think that it depended what day the new year started on. I think the new year would have started on the spring equinox when the law was written. In our calendar that would change the named day to a different day each year.

Yes, the Sabbath is on Saturday. A lot of people think Sunday is the seventh day of the week. How they come to this conclusion I don't know, because Saturday is clearly the seventh day of the week.
