There's one thing made clear, Gunth can't read.

I linked to ONE textbook that had sold 1 million copies. I also linked to another article that pointed out religious teachings in several other Western History Textbooks. A brighter person then Gunth would realize that each of those textbooks are similarly distributed in schools and between all of them, there are likely several million copies. Assuming public school still works the way it did when I was young, those textbooks will each be used by multiple students over several years of school.

So several million textbooks x multiple students for each textbook= lots of millions.

Furthermore, I only looked at a few textbooks. Let's point out that absolutely NO EVIDENCE has been shown by Gunth that there are textbooks that don't mention it.

Let's recall that Gunth mentioned her remembers EVERYTHING from Highschool. Yet, unless I missed it, he still hasn't told us the name of the history books he had that mysteriously never mentioned Jesus.

So for the scoreboard- We have pretty much every contributor to the thread except Gunth agreeing that Jesus was mentioned in Highschool.

We have evidence of several popular High School History Texts all discussing Christianity.

We have nothing but Gunth saying its otherwise.

I cannot speak for other schools besides the ones i went to. They avoided the subject at my schools. There are schools that teachers actually get in trouble for mentioning Jesus.

Not even true, and as far i as i know, every posted that did, is outside of the U.S.

If you had started off the thread with this statement there would have been less Gunth-ridicule. After over 200 posts, you say "I cannot speak for other schools." Unfortunately, you start the thread off doing just that. You started off the thread by speaking for other public schools:

Quote:
Why are kids in school drilled on Greek/Roman mythology but God's Word or Jesus aren't even mentioned in public schools?
See. Then pages and pages follow where people point out that, in fact, Jesus is mentioned in what appears to be most public schools. If you had realized how absurd your OP was then this thread would have been much shorter.

Quote:

That's not the full story. They can mention Jesus in a historical context. They can't teach Jesus as Faith. Exactly how it should be.

I will never stop hating ignorance. Sorry.

Nevermind that. The point is you made statements that you remembered everything you were taught. Obviously this was a lie. No big deal. It simply shows how inaccurate you always are.

And I know you said you weren't taught that. But to claim you remember everything you were taught but forgot the name of the textbook from which you were taught that you opened every day is just ludicrious. We all forget most of the details of high school, especially after 20 years. The difference is most of us admit it.

I have little doubt that Christianity and Jesus were in your textbook and simply forgotten by you. Which is completely normal after 20 years. The only odd part is you not realizing this.

You are the one playing ignorant here kurto. I'm sorry i was not given homework and tests on what the names of my books were. It really isn't ludicrous.

Jesus ****ing Christ! He's saying that you claimed you remember EVERYTHING from school, but then you go on to claim that you don't remember the names of your text books.

He's not criticizing you for not knowing the names of your text books, he's criticizing you for claiming to remember EVERYTHING from school.

GET IT NOW???

Well that is one of the many things he exaggerates in my posts to make some ignorant point. If you actually read the thread you will see that i claimed that i remember everything i was taught in school. But that's cool, don't bother reading the thread, just continue what you are doing.

He's not actually misinterpreting what people say, he's pretending he does, feigning ignorance, and keeping his fun going longer.

This is the same guy who had like a 12 page thread where he kept posting song lyrics.

Well hey, then I apologize. If you're okay with your kid being taught that it's very possible Jesus wasn't divine and that we all should be following a different prophet and submitting to Allah, then I had you all wrong. Gee... Maybe you do recognize that 66% (the majority) of people on this planet do NOT believe in Christ's teachings and should be taught alternatives. I doubt you mean or eve realize what you're saying here, but maybe it's true.

Now THIS is interesting! A subject for a different thread perhaps. I thought the story was that god created man in his own image. But you are saying that we are DESCENDANT from god? I don't think I've ever heard that one before.

Like i said, kid's should be taught all sides of things. They should be able to make their own decisions in life and what they want to follow. They are already taught alternatives, and i highly doubt there is a school out there that gets as in depth when it comes to religion as they do with alternatives.

I'll happily do a thread with you where I point out Biblical contradictions and inaccuracies and you respond to them. Problem is, I don't think you're intellectually honest enough (and perhaps others are right that you're straight trolling) for that to be very productive. So here are my terms.

We each put $500 into a trusted poster's hands as escrow. We start a thread on Biblical inaccuracies and contradictions...I will level the critiques and you can respond, I'll respond back, and we'll play it out. After a specified period of time (say 1 month?), we will start a poll thread to see if I have convinced a majority of posters that I have found one (or more) Biblical contradictions on inaccuracies, since you claim none exist and I will be searching my whole life.

If a majority feel I have won that argument, I get your 500...if a majority feel you have won that argument, you get mine.

You wanna know what's ironic? What if YOU had been born in Pakistan? Or India? Can you honestly say that you'd hold the same beliefs about Jesus and Christianity as you do now? Do you really think that had you been born to Muslim parents, you wouldn't be worshiping Allah right now? Here's the thing...

If you really don't have a problem with religion being taught as if ALL beliefs are on equal footing with one another, I probably think that's a better idea than you do. If this is truly what was taught and the only exposure kids had to religion, we'd have a LOT more atheists in the world! -lol. Unless you're so pompous to think that you'd have still somehow found your way to Christianity (to quote Dawkins), "which by the sheerest of accidents you happened to have been brought up.

Weak, Weak, WEAK sauce bro.

Who cares what the G stands for? You're here, you gamble, right?

If you can ASSURE me I won't find one actual contradiction (I've found dozens), then why wouldn't you take free money?

Scared to see what happens to your assertions when subjected to real scrutiny with something on the line?

Bottom line, I have my ideas and I'm willing to put my money on the line backing them up. You've got your ideas, and you're NOT willing to put your money on the line backing them up. I wonder who actually has the greater strength of conviction vs. who is scared S-less that he believes in a feel-good fairy tale?

Just wanted to touch on this. Because this is typical of what you do and It would be nice if you stopped this BS.

Here's all the people who said that they heard mention of Jesus/Christianity in school in this thread:
Turn Prophet
Melchybeau
Thirddan
Zugzwang
xxMagicianxx
SammyKid...
Kurto
Financier
SixT4

Number of them who confirmed they are outside the US?
SixT4

But as far as YOU know, everyone else is outside the US?!?!? It shows how little you know and how intellectually dishonest you are.

Inside US here, just to confirm yet again how wrong Gunth seems to be about everything...and I graduated in '97, do not remember everything taught to me in high school, but was absolutely taught about Jesus, Paul's letters, the early church, the Christianization of Rome, Constantine, the middle ages, the Crusades, the Reformation, the split between Henry VIII and Rome, the pilgrims and their reasons for leaving Europe, Salem witch trials, the Spanish inquisition, and a host of other things that deal with religion and religious history.

What it boils down to is this. Gunth learned all that stuff in public high school, too, give or take specifics that each state/district/school/teacher gets into. What he WASN'T taught is that Noah's Ark might be true, or that Methuselah lived to be 969 years old, or that Jesus' miracles are confirmed historical fact, etc. And that's what he WANTS taught, because he is quite certain it is god's word. So certain that he ASSERTS it over and over and over again, but also so certain that he won't put his money where his mouth is when challenged by me to a debate over whether it stands up to actual intellectual scrutiny.

If you had proven yourself to be intellectually honest, I'd go through this with you for free. Because you haven't, the exercise of debating you is not worth it to me unless I have the opportunity to get paid for my time. You wouldn't be gambling over god's word...you'd be wagering on your knowledge and ability when it comes to this kind of debate.

Let me know if you decide to man up and we can find a suitable party to hold the money for us.
