I said it before and I'll say it again: trolls troll, regulars kid around. Hard to get more regular than, y'know, being the mod. Can't help feeling a good bit of the outrage is just people butthurt at getting suckered.
Translation: "He can't be a troll because his name is green IMO"? I don't see how that is an argument at all. Either a post/thread/comment is a troll or it isn't a troll. It doesn't become a troll, or abstain from being a troll based on the posters level of activity in the forum...either a comment is a troll or it isn't. I don't see how post counts or the color your name is written in should have anything to do with anything.

Jib may not always be posting inflammatory comments for the purpose of getting a strong response out of people, but it's pretty inarguable that's what he was doing when he posted the quote in the title of this thread.

Again, you may smile and say thank you when other people piss in your cereal..........stop expecting me to do the same. I tend not to be happy blindly deferring to people who have proven time and again that they don't have any clue what they're talking about, call me crazy.

Also, I will still get back to you in that other thread. Didn't have much time for actual content this morning, heading out to tailgate at the TEN v MIA game.

I'd also appreciate it if you stopped calling me a jackass, thanks.

Your eyesight is improving - it's not an argument, and hence is not my argument. I said

Jib is a regular, hence Jib is not a troll. I am a regular, hence I am not a troll. You are a regular, hence you are not a troll.

JFC I have no clue where you get the stones to ever complain about someone else attacking a straw man. By your own definition:
Quote:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response
The troll is the poster, not the post. Be consistent. Post count is not the issue; an unbanned troll can get a million posts. I suppose theoretically a mod could be a troll, but they would, per your own definition, have to consistently post with the primary intent of provoking other users, etc. Not the case with Jib.

Yes, he was definitely kidding around when he posted that, and you and everyone else should have known that.

"I'm not happy about the threadlock bonanza" = smiling and saying thank you; blind deference? I mean, you may rage and put a fist through the monitor whenever something you don't like happens on a message board... stop expecting me to do the same.

Less with the cereal-pissing and the taking it up the ass remarks, then. It's a give and take world. In any case I was only trolling kidding around. Maybe you didn't get the reference, but it was generally supportive of the anti-lockfest sentiment.

My post was neither inflammatory nor extraneous nor was it off-topic. It was basically the same post the OP made (and other posters in the thread) except I said it about atheism. It did exactly what it was designed to do, which is to show how absurd the statement about religion having a shelf life (which is a common theme around here) really is if you look at it objectively.

Maybe you should read the definitions that you post.

While I don't agree with locking those threads that were locked recently, i completely agree with this. People in RGT always make posts that are the converse of someone else's in order to point out the absurdity of the claim or argument. Normally people see it for what it is and don't go making a new thread based on it thinking it was 100% serious. But apparently some people couldn't tell since Jib did it with a wink and a nudge and not a sledgehammer.

Jib here is some advice.

When you spoon things to Rizeagainst and Butcho use smaller spoons next time.

Uh, I am not reading all this crap but...

Atheism is pretty much growing like nothing else. No way it'l be extinct...unless humans themselves are.

The lack of belief is growing, fast.

However I think something about lever pullers would be acceptable.
I'm pretty sure rizeagainst is a closet theist and his intense urge to deny it is what makes him so angry.

in the united states? I predict atheism and Buddhism increase while other religions decrease, decreasing in both popularity and influence.

it makes sense.

It makes sense, but it's unfortunately not what's happening. The fastest-growing religious group are evangelical Christians.

Atheism is becoming more public and less taboo, but I've seen relatively little data to suggest it's growing at an especially fast rate.

I agree that a resurgence of spirituality is coming and an era of extreme materialism is passing, but this doesn't imply a future ruled by fundamentalists. The challenge is to find a form of spirituality that is somewhere between these two discredited extremes. I see Wicca, Druidry, Paganism, Transhumanism, all kinds of occult and New Age ideas making big inroads into both camps. I think we're in an era somewhat like the first centuries C.E., when there was all kinds of confusion since the old religions were clearly dying but it wasn't clear what was going to replace them. Christianity was pretty obscure in those days and few would have guessed that it would become so dominant -- the same is probably true of some marginal faith today.

I must of missed this era because 90%+ of the people i have met in my life are religious or spiritual.

90%? Wow, where do you live? OK I should have said it's already underway.

The number of people who self-identified as having no religion doubled between 1990 and 2008. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demogra...merican_adults
Off course the number hardly changed between 2001 and 2008, so you could still be right if you want to be.

Well that's a little more encouraging.
