That means Obama is credentialed. People from the UK can see him for what he is: Tony Blair v2.0, a slick legal operator, able to read from an auto-cue and not much else.

Except thats not what people from the UK think in general nor is that a particularly fair characterisation.

I think If I worked hard enough I could have accomplished the same and I don't think I am all that smart. I found law classes to be much easier than science or math classes. Had Obama graduated with honors from Havard with a physics degree I would give him a little more credit for being smart. As it stands I can only say that Obama is a hard worker.

Your definition of smart is different to most people's then. Only people capable of gaining a degree in physics from the worlds leading university are smart. Gotcha.

I'd bet money Obama could gain a degree in physics if he so choose fwiw.

Ultimately he ended up championing and implementing a bad bill which in my opinion isn't the action of an intelligent man.

I don't know where he finished in his class, but finding law easier than maths doesnt imply you'll do well at law (which presumably is full of many people who find law easier than maths).

If, relative to others in the field, he's very good in any intellectual endeavour (like law) then he's smart by any reasonable definition of smart.

Unless politics in your country is particularly enlightened, this seems like a foolish statement. There are many reasons for a smart politician to advocate bad bills - whether they're good reasons or not is not particularly important.

My definition of smart is the ability to solve problems. So far Obama hasn't demonstrated he is any better at solving problems than Bush. In fact it could be argued that Obama is worse.

Graduating from Harvard law with honors (and being law review editor) is much, much harder than getting a BS in physics from Harvard with honors.

Lol at either one of those not being sufficient for being smart.

Maybe, or pragmatic (I give a little here to enact my revolutionary agenda next year or somesuch).

Irrespective, the point is there are reasons and so sponsoring a bad bill doesn't imply someone isn't smart.

They demonstrate intellect but not necessarily superior intellect.

Anything 'could be argued'. Those arguments would be incredibly stupid though. In fact someone even claiming this probably isn't intelligent enough to judge whether someone else is intelligent.

Superior intellect required now to be smart? Apparantly an intellect in the top what, 0.01% of the population to be called smart?

I think many smart people go into law instead of science because they can earn more money with less effort as a lawyer than they can as a physicist.

So name one piece of legislation ever passed that demonstrated intellect and superior intellect? Just because these conversations are tiresome, you clearly don't like his politics and thus cannot say anything non stupid about his intelligence. I think Clarence Thomas and Scalia are terrible supreme court justices, but I can't deny their obvious intelligence.

Would you say the Thomas and Scalia are especially smart?

I haven't seen Obama accomplish anything which leads me to believe he is especially smart.

I don't know what that means. They are very smart, of course I think terry tao or lisa randall are smarter.

Justice Scalia clearly is very smart, as is evident from reading his opinions and judicial philosophy and the fact that he has reached the absolute pinnacle of an extremely competitive intellectual profession. When those who disagree with his politics deny this, it is more indicative of how their biases are preventing them from being objective than anything else.

Anyway, this is a stupid conversation. It is pretty clear from your comments in this conversation that "intelligence" is standing as a proxy for something other than intelligence with regards to Obama.

I would think this would be true only if you believe black people to be in general less intelligent than white people....otherwise its really not that big of a deal.

Obama is not smart because he isn't one of the smartest people to have ever lived. This appears to be stu pidasso's requirements.

it's not only about intelligence.. it is much easier for someone who comes from a rich and established family to become a successful politician then for someone who is black and lacks these advantages..

but i think it's a waste of time arguing with you since one can clearly see how biased your view of OBAMA is...

Seriously? When I think of the absolute only-in-my-dream scenarios of achievement in my own life it doesn't even come close to the accomplishment of being president. It's kind of a big deal, black or not.
