Patton Oswalt - Sky Cake

Phone Call to God

My Cat is a Christian

They're all comedy. No in-depth anything.

i would highly recommend this one to atheists and theists...kagan approaches this from a deontological pov rather than an "atheistic" one, suggesting that absolute morality is possible w/o god...they also briefly discuss animal right (which comes up here pretty often) and Craig gets hung up in a couple places...

a lot of theists have challenged that craig destroys the "new atheists" because they aren't philosophers...well, here is a debate between craig and philosopher...

This is one of the better debates I have seen and I think Craig got owned but I'm biased. The part about animals was great. I think you have to watch this debate a few times... the audio is horrible.

I just wanted to point out that zeitgeist made at least half this **** up. The characteristics of the other gods they compare to jesus are mostly just made up or stretched to the breaking point. I'm an atheist who isn't sure Jesus actually existed, but giant LOL @ zeitgeist.

Cliffs...

Wolpe: Dualism is true. Atheism leads to Hitler.
Hitchens: Religion is archaic and evil.

Science, Magic, and Religion

Quote:
Professor Courtenay Raia lectures on science and religion as historical phenomena that have evolved over time. She examines the earlier mind-set before 1700 when into science fitted elements that came eventually to be seen as magical. The course also question how Western cosmologies became "disenchanted." Magical tradition transformed into modern mysticisms is also examined as well as the political implications of these movements. Includes discussion concerning science in totalitarian settings as well as "big science" during the Cold War.
Have seen all of these, very good. Good overview/intro.

Debate - Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett vs Dinesh D'Souza, Shmuley Boteach, Nassim Taleb. Neutral: Robert Wright. Andrés Roemer hosts La Ciudad de las Ideas 2009 Re-evolution

bad audio you'll need headphones.

This is an awesome find! I have only watched very little of it, but I think that this video might be an awesome subject for a thread or maybe multiple threads. Ones where we all listen and evaluate after each speaker. Could be fun.

I finally found time to finish this. Very good, time well spent.
Craig very smart and very capable, adjusting his arguments where needed and posing good questions as well as adequately answering alot of kagan´s.
Kagan did an extremely good job in opposing craig´s questions and posing his own. Seemed like a versatile and swift mind indeed.
Definate recommendation, way way way better than the tired d´souza and hitchens stuff.

1 hour into it various people start saying things in Spanish. The first hour and the last 20 mins where some give closing statements are pretty good. Hitchens really needs new material. I never heard Robert Wright before and he was somewhat interesting in taking the Deist position.

Yeah, I watched the whole thing and it was not as good as I hoped. The only person that I found interesting was Robert Wright. The rest was just the same played out stuff. Nothing really note worthy. Oh well.
