L. Ron Hubbard: Founder

A 10 minute video put out by the Church of Scientology, so it's pure propaganda, but I find it hilarious how over the top they went in presenting their founder as a world-renowned expert on everything. I don't know how they expect anyone to keep a straight face while watching this. Also I can't wait for some Hollywood Scientologists to make a movie about his life - it would make Forrest Gump seem realistic by comparison.

That almost convinced me!

Ok, not really. Scientology propaganda is fun.

Just watched this today. I loved it! My favorite quote:

Piraha guy: "Hey Dan [The Christian missionary guy], I want to talk to you. The Piraha know that you left your own land. We know that you do this to tell us about Jesus. You want us to live like Americans, but the Piraha do not want to live like Americans. We like to drink. We like more than one woman. But we like you. You can stay with us but we don't want to hear more about Jesus. Okay?"

I couldn't have said it better myself.

The Evolution of Religions
(Jared Diamond, professor of geography at UCLA, received the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction in 1998 for Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies. In 1999, he received the National edal of Science. His most recent book is Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed (2004).

Professor Diamond argues that religion has encompassed at least four independent components that have arisen or disappeared at different stages of development of human societies over the last 10,000 years. )

Thanx for the link Ryan. I haven't watched it yet but I like Jared Diamond. I loved Guns, Germs and Steel. Has anyone read Diamond's book "Collapse"? If so what did you think of it? It's been collecting dust on my bookshelf for awhile now.
