I like the bit where they've used bio-engineering to specifically breed it.

Seems the prophecies needed a helping hand.

Re: Official RGT random **** thread

From WSJ:

Quote:
China and the Vatican are set to sign a landmark agreement later this month ending a long struggle between Beijing’s Communist rulers and the pope over who chooses the leaders of Catholicism in the world’s most populous country, according to two people familiar with the matter.
I'm a bit skeptical of this story actually panning out, but if it does, this is of a piece with the Chinese Communist Party's recent crackdown on independent religious groups.

Re: Official RGT random **** thread

A breakaway Ukrainian Orthodox church (Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kiev Patriarchate) which started with the fall of the Soviet Union and has grown into the largest Orthodox congregation in Ukraine, is in the process of being recognized by the larger Orthodox Church community and thus becoming independent of the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church. As a result, the Russian Orthodox Church is suspending relations with the Patriarch of Constantinople (by tradition the most senior of the Orthodox Patriarchs).

This could lead to a more long-term schism among Orthodox Christians as the Russian Orthodox Church is the largest Orthodox congregation.

I'm waiting for the second round of feedback on (hopefully) my first (co-authored) sociology journal article, which is a content analysis of deconversion narratives posted and discussed by ex-Christians in an online forum.

Please share this when it gets published. (If you can, obviously because respecting identity and such...)

Why wait? Curious to see it now if you don't mind sending it.

Re: Official RGT random **** thread

I wanted to post it before as a discussion but my wife (the real author :P) prefers that I wait until it's accepted for publication. I guess I could PM review copies but I think it would be more interesting as a thread.

Nor should it be. Plus: Democracies are idiotic. I wrote a paper on that topic once and proved my hypothesis beyond a reasonable doubt but it was reject by the Journal I sent it to.

Well Named but Poorly Undertitled needs to have the excellent feedback that only RGT regulars can provide on his soon to be published paper.

Oh yeah I finished this and am hoping to start on a PhD in the ethics of borders and migration later this year.

Grats dereds! Your PhD sounds pretty interesting.

Lately I've been reading Whiteshift, about immigration and populism. Curious if you've read it or have an opinion of it. (I'm imagining your reaction to some of the authors views would be similar to mine, i.e. *eyebrow-raise*, so don't read too much into me mentioning the book :P)

Re: Official RGT random **** thread

Haha thanks well named. I've not seen this but I'm kinda familiar with the arguments over here since the white nats have jumped on a demographic geographers work suggesting a white minority by 2070 or thereabouts assuming current rates of change which is a massive assumption.

I'm on the side of abolishing whiteness as well as borders and don't think racial taxonomies are to be preserved as much as left irrelevant I can see why this work would be interesting though, I don't have an issue querying it but it's dependent on the conclusions inferred from it.

Congrats dereds! That is very cool. Very relevant topic as well, do you have an idea of what approach you are taking to it?

I think there's some interesting conversations to be had about the ethics of immigration, but the recently locked thread demonstrates why they are pretty hard to have in a productive way. A lot of my interest also follows from general interest in cultural anthropology. Ethically and politically my views are similar to yours. But I'm not sure how easy it really is to "abolish" ethnic/cultural identities in a way that would make open borders really feasible. I think the book I linked is interesting on that point. Anyway I suppose this is more for the politics forum but I doubt it would work well as a thread there either :P

Thank you, the approach I'm currently discussing with my prospective tutor is to demonstrate that rather than there being a presumption in favour of states being able to exclude non citizens that instead the harm entailed by policing borders and excluding people from opportunities shifts the burden to those that would enforce borders. It's building from a essay by Sarah Fine in a collection of work she edited along with Lea Ypi Migration in Political Theory

I think the cultural identities worth preserving would adapt, but one of my arguments is likely to be is that policing borders facilitates the kind of unjust distributions and disregard for global south populations that in fact motivate migration and it is a mistake I think to consider the ethics of borders in a vacuum and any truly open border movement would entail the kind of structural respect for others that could reduce the motivations for migrating.

I've a long way to go but I feel I've come a pretty long way since I started posting here and it's here where I initially got the motivation to study philosophy in part due to the people quoted here.

"It seems like, total destruction the only solution"

Opened borders would be good none would be better.
