Prayed for your stress and guidance on how to help your friend. Prayed also for your friend to have the strength and perseverance to fight and overcome her addictions.

I think this is being far too generous. What's the difference between this and saying that people who prayed to Zeus were also praying to the same god as Muslims but just differed in their understanding of the nature of god? 'There could be a god whose nature is not known to anyone and therefore everyone is actually praying to it' is not a suggestion that holds any weight for me because it's no more meaningful than me claiming that no one who prays is being listened to because there are no gods at all. As a way of resolving the 'praying to the wrong god' problem, don't you think it's weak? Virtually special pleading?

Isn't what matters, in practical terms, is that those doing the praying, for the most part, think that their gods are different?

Yes, what matters practically is what those doing the praying think, for instance:

Quote:
Pope Francis:
I greet and thank cordially all of you, dear friends belonging to other religious traditions; firstly the Muslims, who worship the one living and merciful God, and call upon Him in prayer. I really appreciate your presence, and in it I see a tangible sign of the wish to grow in recipricol trust and in cooperation for the common good of humanity.
Obviously there are theological disagreements here, but they can be thought of as disagreements about the nature of the same thing, not positing the existence of a separate, different thing.

Two men were walking in the park and saw a man in the distance.

The first man says, "I think that's Joe. JOE! HEY! JOE! OVER HERE! Joe used to work with me until he changed jobs. JOE! JOOOOOOOE!"

The second man says, "No, that's not Joe. That's Bob. BOB! CAN YOU HEAR ME? Bob is friends with my sister and we've hung out a few times. HEEEEEEEY BOB!"

Both people have absolutely different conceptions of the man in the distance. And even though their mental pictures are different, they are talking to the same man.

Note: The word picture intentionally leaves the man's identity completely undefined. It could be Bob, it could be Joe, or it could be someone else entirely. Maybe it's not even a man. It could be a rumpled jacket that someone left on the park bench. It doesn't matter. It also does not say whether the man responds. All it says is that what they claim about the identity of the one they're trying to talk to is irrelevant when it comes to the question of whether they are calling out to the same person.

Gruncing, so you may be thinking about this on a much deeper level, but Zeus didn't reveal himself to the prophet Abraham.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_in...amic_religions

"Islam teaches that God is the same god worshipped by the members of other Abrahamic religions such as Christianity and Judaism (29:46).[18] This is not universally accepted by non-Muslims, as Islam denies the divinity of Jesus Christ as a son of God, Islam views that God does not have any offsprings or descendants, he created all things including prophets such as Jesus Christ. Most Muslims today believe that the religion of Abraham (which now split into Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) are of one source, which is The Almighty God."

I prayed for you to have comfort and peace as you go through a difficult time and for the medicine to work if it's His will. I also prayed that you find the Lord if you haven't already.

Please keep us updated on how you're doing.

Re: Need prayer? Post here!

i wanna say a prayer of gratitude

Dear lord thanks for all the little girls that are gonna get rapped tonight.
I know you will not do anything at all.
Even though you have the power to do so.
I know u knew who was going to be a rapist before u let them be born.
I know that all the raping is part of your divine and perfect plan lord.
I just can't see it because my finite mind cannot grasp your infinite wisdom, that includes the raping of little girls all day everyday.

Thank u lord

amen

Re: Need prayer? Post here!

One thing I miss about being a Christian is being able to tell people I'm praying for them. My one-year nephew had a biopsy for a lump in his spine last week, and what I wanted to say to my (Christian) sister in her own language is that I am praying for her and her son. But secular atheism doesn't really have a great way of saying that. I think saying this is a way of expressing comfort and affirming a moral order to the universe, both of which I want to do. "I'm thinking of you" is the nearest equivalent I could think of, but it seems inadequate.

Something like "I'm hoping for the best for you", although that's not as personal I guess.
