As an atheist in my time I have heard many silly arguments to justify a religion or god but today I heard something that left me simply flabbergasted.

on the train somehow religion came up and this guy tried to tell me how he found Jesus when he used to be an atheist through studying literature or music not sure of which.

so basically he highlights this particular play song or poem or something that tells a story which is basically a metaphor for Jesus.

I have never heard of this story from anywhere before except from this guy on a train, I would say it is actually a very good metaphor for the christian faith, but not for reasons they would want to claim so the story goes like this.

A man loves a girl who does not love him back, she says laughing to the man you don't love me, he insists he does.

if you truly love me proof it "cut out your mothers heart and bring it to me as meat for my dogs."

so he does and the women again laughs at him and says "you don't truly love me if you truly love me slit each wrist twice"

so he does then she laughs again and says "you don't truly love me if you truly love me then die for me" so lets himself bleed to death and then the women is left with nothing.

apparently this is meant to be a beautiful story which only sums up why religion is bad how utterly disgusting what a horrible story.


now firstly this women is so incredibly vain self absorbed and arrogant its unreal surely no character in the bible is like that are they? I mean when has anyone in the bible asked someone to kill a family member in order to proof there love devotion?

Oh wait yes Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac to proof his devotion.

now some may say yes but god stopped that sacrifice well then what about the daughter of Jephthah?

the sheer vanity of desiring people to murder loved ones to proof there greater love to you is simply disgusting it goes beyond evil beyond pathologically insane.

Now generally if a girl i professed my love to ever asked me to murder my mother to show my love for them I would assume 1 of 2 things

1. they actually wanted me to do this to proof my love, that's insane vain pure evil any girl that would seriously expect or desire this is pure evil and someone id want nothing to do with.

2. they are trying to brush me off as they never think i will do it, well a girl who would risk another life to get rid of a guy they do not desire is not admirable either.

of course put yourself in the girls shoes though anyone who would murder there mother to show there love for you is not worth knowing. if a girl did that to show there love for me I would immediately call the police and have nothing to do with them its insane.

if a girl slit there wrists to demonstrated there love for me I would report to the authorities and try to have her sectioned for her own well being.

in neither case would I embrace such absurd behaviors. of course is this not meant to be representing the sacrifice Jesus made for us? How sickening is that, depending on who you talk to it gets confusing if Jesus is god the son of god, or both.

well anyone who is all powerful and can forgive or save us anyway choosing to proof there love to us by having there son killed and tortured is sick.

and what if Jesus is meant to be god so its themselves? well torturing yourself to proof your love for me would freak me out.

I dont know maybe spend time with me help me with things take an interest in things i like be nice to me, these are things that would demonstrated your love to me not murdering someone else or having yourself hurt that would just freak me out.

I guess the intended point is I and other atheists are supposed to be the girl in this story? well what the heck I never asked god or Jesus or whatever to do that to proof there love me so dont put that link there. Maybe if god wants to proof his love to me he can teach me poker in my sleep so i can make good money or help me find a girlfriend or decent job or teach me how to cook a nice recipe.

The only circumstance in which hurting any living creature to proof love to me would work is if that creature was threatening me or harming me in a way that would justify that level of response.

Sick story and an argument which is hard to even satire.

Luke, trying to read your writing is just too painful. I tried, but I just couldn't get through it. The twisted grammar makes my head hurt, and the crazy punctuation/spelling keeps leading the reader down the garden path, and then ... Bang!! ... Iit's another 180 degree turn to parts unknown.

I stopped reading here. If you weren't really listening to the guy, then it's unlikely you understood any of the nuanced points of his argument. As an atheist, I highly doubt he had any convincing points, but if you didn't bother to listen at the beginning you're not entitled to post how ridiculous the rest of his argument was.
