For arguments sake perhaps. Not really though. I know this because of the consistent demand for evidence based on an imposed evidentiary standard. Neeel in this thread alone is a primary example.

You're overstating the case here. It is certainly not common for convinced atheists to regularly attend church.

I'm committed to a lexical prioritization of epistemic reasons for belief over pragmatic reasons. The definition I gave of truth is that a statement is true if it corresponds to the facts or to reality. I accept science, math, history, and occasionally philosophy as giving us epistemic reasons to prefer some theoretical claims about the nature of the universe over others, although I don't think we ever achieve epistemic certainty about these claims. I'm open to other avenues - perhaps some forms of meditation or practical mastery gives us relevant knowledge as well.

I enjoy reading neeeel and appreciate his bulldog approach to topics (even if I think his extreme nominalism is inconsistently applied), but he is no more a representative of atheism than any of us. You've come into all these discussions here with false generalizations about what atheists believe and how they act, and discounted those who don't fit as exceptions and the treat the ones who do as paradigmatic. Not a good way to learn about people.

Science being the only way to end up with any answers whatever doesn't imply that science can answer all questions or give us final answers. Also, I'll just point out that roughly half of all scientists are religious.

You claimed I had a facile understanding of the Christian god and didn't understand Christianity. I think I do understand Christianity and do not have a facile understanding of the Christian god. So tell me where my understanding is wrong. For instance, you disagree with my description of the Christian god as benevolent. If I'm wrong that Christian theology typically understands God as a loving god please correct me with citations showing this to be an incorrect understanding.

65% of atheists seldom or never discuss their views on religion with religious people. Your view of atheists is distorted because you primarily interact with them as an antagonist, and so the people who respond are primarily those who enjoy antagonistic discussions - which most people don't, including atheists. Your approach selects for the most combative atheists, giving you a misleading picture of what atheists are actually like.
