Being on a forum we all have these funny names that we go by. Some more obvious then others, but some really make no sense to me. I thought that it would be fun if we gave the back story to our 2p2 names.

Also, talking to a couple of 2p2ers live, you start to notice that other pronounce peoples names really differently. Again, some more easy than others. So please give how your name should be pronounced as well.

I will start even though I think a lot of you know. My name JibNinjas is obviously two words, Jib and Ninjas. Jibbing is a snowboard term used to describe when someone jumps up on something, or maybe taps it while going over it. When I was young (14 or so) me and a bunch of friends used to snowboard constantly and as you do when you are young, we named our selves the JibNinjas. The name stuck with us as we all snowboarded for a long time together and are all friends still (we also made a bunch of movies and things as I have shared before.)

I am not very creative, so when the time came to come up with a name for party poker, I defaulted to this, and just kept the name with pretty much everything that I need a SN for.

Ok, now you!

Always liked the movie Desperado and went with the villains name from that film.

At the time I didn't know it was actually spelled Bucho lol.

22 was how old I was at the time. (dumb, i know)

I was reading Malcolm X Autobiography when I registered. Good book and I'd recommend it.

I'm floored that sometimes it takes years for people to figure out how to pronounce my name.

I picked my name because I figured it fit.

When I started college, some guy from down the hall set up my account for something stupid (I was a computer science major, but didn't come in with any real computer knowledge) and gave me the name hamstergang. Later, when making an account on party poker and some multi-college forum, I decided to go with gangstaman as it shared the same flow and 4 letters and I listen to rap/r&b.

Only problem is that I'm not always great at spelling. My brother eventually saw my mistake. I decided to just go with it and this has been my username everywhere ever since.

I pronounce my name as if I had put the other 'g' in it. Once, someone from another forum called me for something and he called me by my username. It sounded so weird, I didn't even know who he was talking to.

On many sites, I find the names I want are already taken. So for a gambling site, I stole a name I had seen before, that used a spelling variation for Ocean's 11. Most are now thinking - no kidding... but someone out there is now thinking - OOOHHHHHhhhhhhhhh....

Once a upon a time there was a very pretentious BBS where some people used real names and other people used handles, but the handles were generally not playful or fun.

A friend of mine made an account there and used "sockhead" as his handle. It really struck my funny bone. I never forgot it.

Not that I particularly think 2+2 is pretentious... it was just a funny online handle related thing, and so I used it this time around for myself. I have a handful of other, older, 2+2 handles, and of all of them, this is the only one with any kind of story at all -- the others are just names I made up on the spot that had no meaning to me.

I only wish I had thought to make it sockhead21, which sounds much more gambly than sockhead2. Oh well.

I pronounce it sock - head - 2, but without the hyphens.

Back in my undergrad days I was a fan of the french philosopher Voltaire. I can't even remember what I was signing up for (the internet was not so robust in those days) but I had to pick a user name for something. Voltaire's real name was François-Marie Arouet.

The actual name should probably be pronounced with a french accent (A-chrou-eh) (the chrou is supposed to be a rolling 'r'), but in my head it goes more like A - rou - ette. (non rolling R). I don't care if that's wrong, that's how I think of ii!

I only play poker for money. Bridge is my game of choice and 'bunny bashing' is a bridge term for absolutely demolishing beginning players by playing atrociously badly and giving yourself the chance for big wins, safe in the knowledge they're not good enough to take advantage of your errors and punish you.

In bridge a bunny is roughly analogous to a fish in poker.

My name's Jan and my nickname was Janman in college, but my pot-smoking friends preferred to call me Janabis.

lol, in my head I always saw the 'g'. When you were talking about misspelling it I was think "well, how the hell else are you supposed to spell it", then I noticed the 'g' was missing.

Up until this thread I never noticed the spelling error either.

When I first joined 2+2, though I wasn't new to poker, this was, after all SKLANKY'S site, my goodness, the guy that wrote HPFAP, the poker player's bible, oh my.

I knew there were a lot of good players and I didn't want to appear disrespectful, as I figured I was going to ask a lot of hard questions and maybe take some contrary positions. So I tried to type in "NotReadyForPrimeTime", but it got shortened to this.

BTW, I was right - I wasn't ready for PT, still ain't.

I have a habit of not paying attention to 2p2 names outside of a cursory glance at the spelling so I always saw that avatar and went with Jib-e-janis.

I just like punk rock and punk rock magazines.
