Jesus Christ - Grandiose Religious Delusion? Jesus Christ - Grandiose Religious Delusion?

Wikipedia informs me that 'most modern historians agree that Jesus existed, was a Jewish teacher from Galilee in Roman Judaea, was baptized by John the Baptist, and crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect, Pontius Pilate'.

Could his subsequent preachings and claims of being the son of God be the result of him suffering from a grandiose religious delusion?

Plausible?

Read up on C.S. Lewis' trilemma. Some apologists think it's the most important argument in apologetics.

Also the Case for Christ by Strobel has a chapter evaluating this topic.

Far more plausible than him actually being the son of God imo

Obviously it's plausible or everyone would be Christian, what's your point?

Most ideas are the creations of the intellect.

But why does God's withstand the test of time?

Could it be it's the real thing? Buttressed and allied to all types of evidence because it's made by God?

I would guess its much more likely that its other peoples claims and misinterpretations about jesus that are grandiose and deluded. Its hard to tell without actually having been there though.

ffffffffffffffffssssssssss I just wrote an epicly long reply as to why your comment holds no water and is misleading. I ****ing hate small laptops where the keys are too close together.

But my main point was that:

Human intellect changes over time (and has been very rapidly increasing recently). We used to believe all sorts of **** like the Earth was flat and the planets orbited the Earth and that there was a crazy superman in the sky that created and controlled everything (and explained all the stuff that they didn't know - i.e. God of the gaps).

Also, your post isn't actually a coherent argument. It is just a comment and three questions.

I love it when Christians claim that they were there (in his heart and all that bs)

Yes, the human brain has plasticity.

You don't think God didn't know people were going to increase in knowledge?

Why do atheists keep insisting because they have some evidence today that they know everything about the origin of things?

They don't. The most famous evolutionists in the world still argue over things which shows they are not in receipt of all knowledge (the facts).

And I can question if I like....the atheists do it incessantly...above all things they like to dodge burdens of proof...that's where all the real work is.

Am addressing most of this in the Humans thread but, while I agree that evolutionists don't know everything, it's not like everything is up for grabs. The best chefs in the world will argue over how to make the tastiest cream of tomato soup, but the basic ingredients are the same and none of the recipes involve dog poop.

It's this kind of evasiveness that's annoying.

Son of God. Break it down to it's fundamentals.

When I say, I am a son of my dad, what am I saying? I am an offspring, a product of, created by, my dad.

What is Jesus saying? There is an Ultimate Source to all this. And I am an offspring of that Source; I am a creation, result, product, effect of that Ultimate Source.

And if there is an Ultimate Source, you can easily see how you would be a product of that One as well.

Evasive?

I thought I was showing the error in zumby's statement.

People eat things grown from poop all the time.

Grown from, but the fecal matter itself is not in the recipe, which is what zumby meant (and you knew that).

nice.

God would not let his Son see corruption.

His Son was an exception.

We're not though we could be if we could reason like God wants us to.

It was first mentioned in post #10, so we're 4 posts nicer than you thought we were.

And zumby started the poop thing.

I was pointing out to Splendour, that in a thread talking about her most precious treasure, she allows herself to talk about poop within 14 posts. *shrug*

The burden of proof for what? Science stuff? Go ask a scientist, not an atheist. Atheists are required to reason that the scientific method is a good method for trying to find what happens and how it happens and how deductions from the scientific method can be put to good use. They are not required to know the intricate details of all scientific theories (although they should be able to outline the important ones)... that's unrealistic and asking too much

Is that why God had to destroy the world and start over completely, then start over completely again with just the Jews?

Well, not just Christians actually. Muslims considered Jesus to be a great prophet, and there's about 1.7 billion of them.
