Congratulations Original Position.
Some men see things as they are, and ask "why?"

Other men see things that never were, and ask "why not?"

Can we make threads complaining about how he over- and under-mods now just to get it out of the way?

Also, what is the original position?

I think most of the people on this forum know me, but for those who are new, or just to create a reference post, here is a basic religious bio.

I became a Christian in the born-again Christian sense of asking Jesus into your life when I was five years old. My family was very religious (my father started a church when I was in my teens) and I was raised in an environment where we discussed Christian theology and practice all the time. This meant daily Bible study and prayer, both as a family and on my own, lots of involvement in our local church, and an attempt to approach our communal family life in a "Christ-centered" manner (i.e. evangelism, political involvement, charity, homeschooling etc).

Towards the end of my high school years, I thought that in order to become a mature Christian it was necessary that I study the evidence for Christianity in a more independent manner. I felt that up to that point I had primarily accepted the claims of Christianity because of growing up in a Christian household, and that this wouldn't suffice for an adult Christian. So over a period of two years I studied the evidences for Christianity, with a primary emphasis on two issues: the philosophical proofs for the existence of God, and the historical evidence for the reliability of the New Testament. At the end of this process of study, I reluctantly concluded that the evidence didn't justify a belief in the main tenets of the traditional Christianity in which I had been raised.

I then went to college where I majored in philosophy--taking a number of courses in philosophy of religion, theology, and Biblical studies. After graduating, I kicked around the states for a few years, but am now in graduate school for philosophy, with my primary field of study being political philosophy.

I still try to keep up on current movements in American Christianity and religion more generally. I also try to attend a religious service once or twice a month--anything from Quaker, to mainline Protestant or Catholic, Orthodox Christian, evangelical or fundamentalist Christian, Pentecostal, Orthodox, Reformed or Conservative Jewish, and Buddhist (still haven't made it to a mosque yet).

As a moderator, my goal is to help maintain a basic level of decorum and respect in the forum by enforcing the forum rules as impartially as possible. If you ever feel that I am being unfair or am acting in a biased manner, please feel free to PM me about your concerns. I've been around long enough to form opinions about many of your posting styles, but my goal is to evaluate all possible infractions as if I didn't know who made the post. However, this is a high standard, so if you think I've failed it, please let me know.

Finally, I'll note that I am not on 2p2 every day. It is not uncommon during the week for me to be away from my computer for up to 2 days at a time, so I won't always be able to immediately respond to your concerns.

Anyway, congratulations on the new role. I only hope that it will not reduce your contributions as a poster. Your posts are worth the price of admission all by themselves.

Even if you hadnt established your mod-worthy credentials via your posting style, that bio is pretty unassailable. Enjoy your new role.

I think it is important that in a forum as divided as this one that the mods have representatives from both sides. If it just modded from one side, then it can hardly be called fair.

In this case, the main division is that there are some people whose posts are worth reading and some who are not. I think the people whose posts are not worth reading are now significantly and asymmetrically underrepresented

A suitable choice. Though a bit touchy sometimes, Original Position is one of the more scholarly debaters here. I won't say master debater however, since that distinction is already taken (by someone who shall remain nameless).

Seriously. What motivates someone to become a mod? I wouldn't do it if they paid me. But I'm very appreciative of those who do and I think Original Position will be a great mod. I also think Jib does a great job, so thanks to both of you.

I'd like to pass on a little advice that I learnt on the internet. When you finally do make it into a mosque....leave the BLT in the car.
