dnight - I'm a little confused about your beliefs. I seem to remember that you used to be a regular christian on the forum defending christianity. Is this still the case? You to mostly take issue now with other Christians so I wasn't sure if you were no longer a Christian or if you just took issue with how others presented Christianity.

i use to defend christianity because back then splendour, pletho, and co werent around to **** up any real discussion that could occur, and its always fun to defend the underdog in an intellectual debate.

Personally i would call myself a deist, although i do attend a christian church (mostly for the fellowship with good friends) and have read the bible multiple times and would have (years ago) called myself a die hard christian.

umm elaborate (the bold part)? Other animals eat raw meat...

You're jumping through a lot of hoops trying to give these verses an alternative enterpretation. Why is the bible's view on homosexuality so important to you? Do you follow all the riduculous rules in the OT?

I'm not jumping through hoops. I'm presenting evidence already researched by others who study the bible. I pointed out that this was what I was told by a Jewish Rabbi who had studied hebrew culture and the bible.

its hardly a revolutionary idea that people have misinterpreted parts of the Bible.

also - I don't look to the old testament for any of my personal choices. but millions of people do. I think that makes it worthy of our attention and analysis.

The reason its important to me is it illuminates how abused the bible is. How people might accept ridiculous and hateful conclusions about other people based on possibly misinterpreted passages of a 2000 year old book that can't even be properly translated. seems a big deal

I believe most Christians don't know what the Bible says and would be completely surprised to find someone of the harsh things in it. Its not like pastors focus on these passages in church.
What's harsh in it?
